Spraying cakes with pesticides?
    #10112331 - 04/05/09 07:03 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

Right, so I've got some basil growing in my room, also where my birthing chamber is. Recently, I noticed little bugs flying around over by my window where my plants and cakes are located. I've sprayed the plants with an insecticidal soap, ortho brand that says it's safe to spray plants even up to the day of harvest, so would it be safe to spray the chamber/ cakes with it to assure the bugs die? I'm not sure what kind of bug it is, but it lands on the underside of my basil leaves, and there little black bugs that fly. Any help would be appreciated!

i would not recommend doing that, as even just water being sprayed on fruiting cakes is harmful. anyways u said they only go onto the bottom of the basil leave, so if they are that specific you could probably assume they are not interested in ur cakes. but maybe u should just move ur cakes away from that area for a while, while u take care of it.

buy some of this and put it on the leaves of the basil plant, dont put this on the cakes.

it will kill any bug on your plants, thats not the only plant it protects as well

well a few times a fly has been in the chamber but it may have just been in there, not because of the mushrooms. The spray i bought works well, I just was curious about spraying on shrooms. thanks for the replies!

No, water being sprayed on a cake is exactly what is necessary.  You must mist to get decent performance.

You guys worry way too much about bugs.  They don't eat much.  Don't use pesticides on anything.  If you need to catch gnats or something, a can of beer with a few tablespoons in the bottom will work.

Does psilocin/psilocybin have any effect on the very simple nervous system of insects?

It might be interesting to see what those little bugs do when they eat some of your mycelium.

Perhaps they'd fly erratically, or curl up into scared little insect balls to protect themselves, or something.
