More substrate = longer waiting??
    #1011183 - 10/31/02 07:18 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

If you use more substrate to make a casing will colonization and fruiting times take longer?? For example, u case a quart, it takes 5 days till it's ready to birth, and 10 days to fruit after birthing. On the other hand, u case 2 quarts, I know it takes longer to colonize, but once it's birthed, is it normal for it to take longer to fruit?? Thanks!!!

Everything should be relative I imagine, in that, it depends on your innoculate to spawn ratio. IE:spawing a half pint into 10 quarts would take much longer than spawning 2 quarts into the same 10 quarts. Also I think it would have a lot to do with your original substrate material, mainly grain versus a cake. Using a grain would introduce a lot more innocluation points into the spawn material versus a crumbled cake.

Not if you grated up your cake with a cheese grater.

To answer your question, once you have a fully colonized substrate, it doesn't matter how large it is in how long it will take to fruit if in the proper conditions.

Cheese graters are too much effort. I just throw that puppy in the blender.

From what I've seen here, the spawn to substrate ratio is what determines the colonazation speed( all otherfactorsbeing equal)

Fruiting times should be about even for different size casings, if spawn to sub ratios are equal. My$.02
