ok, so i birthed my first 2 cakes ever this morning, and it was a little rough... I had to use a knife to compress the cakes cuz they seemed to swell at the bottom, and jimmy them out with it... i pressed pretty hard and while they did retain their shape and colour (well, i pressed a bunch of myc into the some verm, it looks like), and I can't tell if they are bruised yet...most likely they are I just want to know if anyone else has given em a rough birth, and whether or not they still fruited well on other flushes. thanks ps. i dunked them last night still in the jars cuz i couldnt get em out but didnt hvae the time to figure out the best way of gettin em out other than breaking the jars, hence still in jars while dunking

I have to use a knife EVERY TIME I get my cakes out, no amount of slamming works. So long as you didn't break your substrate, I can't see why they work.
What I do is just gently put a clean butter knife in the jar, and squish the bottom on 4 sides so it slides out a little easier.

You turn them upside down and slam the jar down on a table or block of wood, and the cake pops right out. Dunking in the jars does no good, because the cakes need to expand as they take in water. If they're tight in the jar, they can't expand, thus they don't uptake water. Now that they're out of the jars, dunk them overnight before putting into the terrarium. RR

Oo yes sir! ill take em out now and give em a good soak. thnx for the quick reply EDIT
oh man, i took em out of the FC and they look saaaaad the myc on the sides looks all but gone...i know the stuff is resilient, and that it is growing under the sub...but its hard to see and the cakes look like they are just crying in agony least the tops are still white for some reason i thought the cakes would feel spongy (myc looks so fluffy)...mine dont at all, just like sand castles made of verm and brf lol
anyway, let me know if you think they will survive, they will be dunking for the next 18 hours or so then i will roll them in verm

I've tried this until my neighbors downstairs came up to see what the hell I was doing. I guess you got more finesse then me because I always break down to grabbing the ol' butter knife.
