PF Tek Jars n00b questions
    #10109932 - 04/05/09 11:18 AM (15 years, 9 months ago)

So I inoculated 4 jars and stored them in a good spot and after a few days I don't see anything happening. Now here comes the retarded questions that I'm sorry in advance for asking.

1.) Was or am I supposed to water the jars or are you only supposed to be misting the cakes with water when they are moved out of the jar and into the fruiting chamber
2.) Are jars supposed to get sunlight, I read to store them in a dark place

Do what you read. Most of the trusted cultivators say there is no need to worry about light when your colonizing, so i guess it really doesnt matter, as long as you keep them at temp.

And no you dont have to water them in the jars.

I think its better to keep them in the dark while they are colonizing because light will induce pinning. I didnt see any mycelium for almost a month. You definitely dont want to add water to the jars during the colonizing process.....mist a few time daily with a spray bottle once you dunk and roll and place in the FC.

I had my first batch in an incubator in the dark too, but after listening to RR and others, im going to keep them on a shelve to colonize. Not exactly in direct light, but not in complete darkness. They all say that time after time, your cakes really wont pin in the light, very rarely. But if the do it is ok. so i wouldnt worry about complete daarkness

plus they say keeping your jars in an incubator can be bad for contams as far as any cross contamination. If one gets they all might. I didnt have any problems with that my first grow, but it makes sense that a confined space could be worse. But do what works for you, and browse the site alot, you will get alot of helpfull tips. :doggystyle:good luck
