extra/over colinizing. any opinions?

what are the pros and cons to allowing a coir based substrate colinize...say 5-10 days past 100% before going into fruiting conditions. i've heard of a few people waiting for knotting/pinning but wouln't the lack of light and fae make it take longer?

just a passing thought.

Once upon a time I found a few casings in my room. Some had a bottom casing layer of coco coir, some didn't. The ones with the extra casing layer we're allowed to incubate a few days longer (as you describe) to fully colonize the coir. The casings that had the bottom layer did just as well as the ones without. The extra bit of work simply ensures a balanced moisture content in your casings.

That we will need it for something. Maybe just to think our way out of the mess that we're getting into.
Shulgin: If it's needed, we have it. That's the beauty. The tool is there. For the time when the need is obvious. And this may be our lifetime...

If you're going to fruit uncased, you'll definitely see a more defined and timed pinset.  I like to wait 3-4 days after full colonization to allow the substrate to consolidate and make sure it fully realizes there is no more food to reach for, and to hunker down and start to digest and produce fruit bodies.

If you're going to case, then there is a matter of opinion regarding late or early casing.
