i would advise you not to pack down the verm dry or wet. i like to just mix everything it in a bowl then take a wooden spoon i bought at walmart and just dump it in with that. this way it stays nice and fluffy so the mycelium has room to breath. i have no heard anything about rust being a problem. btw i do the dry verm layer on top and sterilize. best to be safe than sorry.

What I do is mix my verm and water first, then add my BRF. Then once that whole mixture is ready, I scoop it into my jars. DON'T pack it down. If you pack it down, it is going to take a lot longer for the jars to colonize. I leave a little space at the top of the jar for a small layer of just verm. Then I put all the jars into a PC and sterilize everything. Then just inoculate the jars and your good to go with a good substrate with a sterilized verm layer on top. Hope this helps! Peace

I go a step further and put micropore tape over the holes after innoc. I know it not nessesary because of the verm. layer, but it helps me sleep at night.

Well I actually have two layers of tinfoil over the mouth. So I take the top layer off and inoculate through the 2nd layer. When I'm done, I place the second layer on and seal it up. Works mint!
