when a plant has droppings .for example a tree drops leaves it is foliage..or fruit ,bark like if you look at your lawn depending on what kind of grass you have like Bermuda or Centipede the grass has runners that connect the blades ..when this dries out to the runner the grass blades would be the foliage after it died ..just like with the wheat straw it has foliage from the fruit it produces like the grain or hops ..i just wanted to know if it was necessary to remove this in case something gets in my friends substrate from not cleaning the straw before chopping an pasteurizing ..soon i will have a log for my friends grow ..he is using a  mono tub  shotgun setting  using wheat straw as a substrate

well a friend is trying a project with what he got ..all the culture i have atm is as some old Honey LC he don't even know if is good anymore ..he sterilized
an old syringe in alcohol ...and cleaned of the baby bottle(nipple down) with the LC and he got 2 hand fulls of finely chopped up wheat straw soaking a tub of hot soapy water, then  my friend will pasteurize  it the same way in the bath tub in a small tubbie ..then to keep it warm just adding hot water to the bath ..he has everything except spawn and a big jar so thats why he is using  old LC and a half PT jar stuff the straw down the the 1/2 pt jar and knock it in a bunch  of spots so it will grow fast .then use something to weigh it down a little close lid us pillow stuffing in jar lid.i am curious as to what happened s with this lil project he pulls crazy shit off sometimes ..what do you think will happened?

Leaves and other plant debris won't hurt, just chop it all up with a lawmower 2-3 times over.  $5+ for a bale is expensive.  You should be able to find straw in the country area for about $3 a bale.  Craigslist sometimes advertises straw sellers.

Evolution is Lamarckism in disguise.  Adaptation never creates a new species or trait, but rather the new species/trait always existed within the parent DNA until circumstances allowed it to be activated.  For instance, every wolf has the DNA for poodles, but that DNA would never be revealed without man selectively breeding for it.

7 dollars for 45 LBS of substrate at my convenience is well worth 5 bucks
