Thanks for looking, I have been doing searches on the forum while I wait for my p. cube spores to arrive. Seems a good substrate for incubation is BRF with added nutrients, there is some debate on this it seems. I did find this one recipe posted several years ago that peaques my interest. The recipe does not elaborate on the manure however, fresh, dried, powdered... how would I process manure for addition to BRF cakes? Horse or Cow manure both good? I want my first shrooms to fruit of course, but I also want them to be potent.
I have seen several post on "poo" added to the PF tek style cakes, but I haven't found elaboration on exactly how to prepare the poo, do you get fresh from a barn, purchase it? etc... and other than this recipe any exact measurements. I know its experimental, I am just looking for a starting point. If I am successful I will post a video of my exact process for the community. Thanks for details, Scott
Recipe from past post ------------------------------------ Substrate recipe: 5 cups of vermiculite 3 cups manure 10 tablespoons of brown rice flour 2 cups of water This will make 10-12 half pint jars of substrate. Since there is manure already in the substrate you will not have to worry about colonizing manure later. This greatly reduces the risk of failure(contamination) and also reduces cultivation time. Boil/pressure cook jars of substrate as usual, and inoculate in the usual manner. When jars are fully colonized, slice/crumble the substrate over a moist layer of vermiculite. Casing is NOT required, but I like to case with composted manure. Case them very thinly(1/8-1/4 inch), just enugh to fill in the cracks and crannies and just so you can't see substrate. Basically just enough to make a nice even layer, instead of a lumpy one. 50/50 casing mix also will work fine. Again casing is NOT required but it won't hurt, just case them thin(no more than a 1/2 inch, less is faster).

the poo used for cultivation has to be old poo. You dont want it fresh because there is piss, ammonia, and other disgusting crap in it. It needs to have been weathered, leached and dried. No foul odors should come from it, but rather it should have a dirt/ earthy smell. Ive never used any store bought shit, but go to a stable and walk the pastures looking for old dried up, kinda white turd nuggets. Break them apart, and there ya go. I havent done poo cakes though, only spawned wbs to poo. The same standard for shit i assume would still apply.

I found a Alpaca farm just down the road that has 50lb bags of fresh poo for $10 bucks... I'm going to give that a try, I might mess up a culture or two, but it sounds interesting. Alpaca poo is supposed to have lots of natural grasses in the poo and also does not smell, so they say... I have read it is high in nitrogen and is good for general purpose gardening without composting. Not to say that any of that is good for 'shrooms, maybe someone has some first hand experience with Alpaca or Llama poo.
