First Pin: Ripped Veil / Harvesting Question

Hey there! I just wanted to ask a question...Yes it's another noob question; anyhow, here goes.
Can I harvest a pin off of a casing? It's the first of many but I wanted to test it out!! Can I just cut it off of the casing at the base of it and start munching away? Will it harm the rest of the fruits? Will it affect yield? If there are a few mature pins, and many small growing ones, should you wait until the small ones are ripe (ripped veil?) Or should you harvest as they ripen?
Thanks for your replies. Pics to follow.

Quick answer: Don't pick any fruits until the cake or casing is finished fruiting. A pin would dry up to a trivial amount any way. There would be no point in trying it.
-------------------- McKenna: I think that I am always, from the very first psychedelic experience, had the uncanny intuition that "Yes this has been around for 50,000 years" but it somehow going to be critically important in our lifetime. That we will need it for something. Maybe just to think our way out of the mess that we're getting into.
Shulgin: If it's needed, we have it. That's the beauty. The tool is there. For the time when the need is obvious. And this may be our lifetime...

Unless said pin had a ginormous amount of bruising and he decided to drop that little pin on a piece of agar in a petri dish and then start isolating it down until the sectors are gone for a fairly potent isolated strain in theory.

Awesome, and thanks for the replies. But, what about if there are about 4 with broken veils, meanwhile, at the same time there are new pins popping out. Is that considered the second flush? Or is it all the first flush until there are no more pins in formation?

The first set of pins are usually for both the first and second flushes. You will occasionally see lots of pins, but not all of them grow into mature mushrooms until later.
