Semi New Grower, Need help with setup

Well guys I have grown one successful crop with 5lbs of cow manure (one of those self contained kits with rye grain and manure in different bags with the spores sealed in with them)
I am looking to do some sort of casing setup, and here is what I have bought:
12 Quarts 60/40 Vermiculite / Coir 10 Pounds Rye Grain Seed 10 1/2 Pint Jars 5 1 Pint Jars 1 Pressure Cooker 1 Light Timer 1 T8 Ballast, 2 40W 6700K Tubes putting out 6000 Lumens total 2 Sealable 30 gallon clear rubermaid containers 1 Spore Syringe, B+
I am doing this for casing:
25% Vermiculite Coir Mix ------------------------ 50% Rye Grain Seed ------------------------ 25% Vermiculite Coir Mix
Set the lights to 12/12.
Temperature is a steady 75F.
Going to pressure cook my substrates, inoculate under HEPA filter, let the mycelium grow while breaking it up. Going to keep one fully grown jar in the fridge for inoculating more jars.
Then I will do the layers of substrate in my containers and moisturize them....
Am I missing anything obvious or do I sound like I am good to go?

why do you go for coir and not peat?
other than that i wish you the very best of luck.

first off, you shouldnt put a bottom casing layer. it can make the sub pin where you cant properly take care of it. second, coir is used as a bulk sub, not a casing layer. The general consensus nowadays is peat/verm for casing layers since coir is a nutritious substance and casing layers should have no nutritional value. If you wanted to expand your myc to make larger substrates, i would suggest spawning to coir, and once colonized case with 50/50 peat/verm.

For the casing layer, you should use peat moss / verm / lime.
Your casing layer should not contain any nutrients, as it'll invite contams to grow in it, plus your substrate will colonize it, defeating the purpose of the casing - which is to provide a humid micro-climate right at the substrate to trigger pinning.
Otherwise your plan sounds fine.

Ok awsome,
Any idea where I can buy vermiculite?
I have gone to:
Local Garden Center Home Depot Lowes
None of them carry it :|
I may try a hydroponics store next, do you think they would carry it?
When I ask if they have it they look at me like im an idiot and point me to the perlite.
Would it be ok to use some of the vermiculite and coir mix in my substrate so I dont waste it?

haha. man, i always buy mine at the local nursery. Maybe you could call a few in your area and ask before you run out to a bunch of them.
Or, instead of buying verm and peat seperately, home depot sells a mix called Jiffy Mix. Its 50/50 verm/peat with added lime. Costs only a few dollars a bag and works very well for casing layers.

Awsome, thanks!
Anyway I can put my vermiculite and coir mix to work as part of my substrate?

Hell yeah, mix your fully colonized spawn with the coir/verm (you can also add coffee grinds and gypsum if youd like). Be sure to pasteurize your coir mix and attain proper moisture content beforehand of course. Once you mix, cover your tray with tin foil with a few poked holes, let the colonization run its course, and once fully colonized put a layer of pasteurized jiffy mix on top. I like to use a thin casing layer, about 1/4 inch, and throw directly into fruiting. You could add a thicker layer, let partially colonize, patch, and then place in fruiting conditions, but its really just personal preference.

Sweet! Thanks for the advice.
I am hoping using this method to get more dry weight than I would with a comparable substrate and PF Tek..
Anyone used a similar method and how were your yields?

With the method i stated, I used 20 qt jars, made 8 subs, and came out with over a pound dry. I used a coir/poo mixture though.

My standard recipe is:
6 quarts grain spawn 20 quarts bulk substrate
And I get stuff like:

Average 6 or so oz dry first flush and up to a lb dry over subsequent flushes provided it doesn't contam first.
