after having a conversation on this forum with the great RR ,i have decided to go with his method in building my terrarium ,it seems to me the most logical method.i do have a question about what goes in it though and im not going use the PF tech i'm actually going to use grain spawn to a straw bulk substrate so i can get the most out of my mycelium ..I am going to make a couple of straw logs as also is shown in RR video to put in my terrarium ..But now for the reason i made this post is because of my question with making straw trays .. i have a few casing trays i don't want to go to waist so i am considering making sort of a straw log in a casing tray ..(1) will i need to poke holes in the tray after i have placed foil over the top so when it colonizes to let it breath? (2) has anyone tried this before? and if you have please let me know how it came out (3) in my straw log should i poke holes in it after first making the log ? and (4) should i dunk my log/tray after its 100% colonized to get the best results fruiting and if so how?

You need gas exchange during straw colonization. The straw log tek is on my website and it's also posted here in full somewhere. You need to compress straw during colonization, so if you use a tray, it needs a weight on top of the straw to hold it packed down.
Bulk substrates such as straw logs don't perform as well in a shotgun terrarium as they would in a mini-greenhouse, or outdoors if the warm spring rainy season has arrived in your area. RR

Large substrates produce a LOT of CO2, and this needs a larger area to dissipate. Shotgun terrariums work great for small bulk trays and cakes. Once you move to larger sized bulk growing, you'll want a fruiting environment that's better suited, such as a greenhouse or open air outdoors if weather conditions are suitable. RR
