So you saying that there are stupid people in the world. I already knew that.
I can tell you, from personal experience, that I have never seen any negative results from not giving a 2 week notice when quitting a job.
Almost everyone here is just spreading fear.
Kumara, a business owner, as blown everyones theory that giving 2 weeks notice will hurt your chance of getting a job, out of the water.
Giving 2 weeks notice is not required.

You've also stated that there are bad business owners as your stories about supposedly being disrespected at the workplace for no reason suggest.
(Can't tell if above post is sarcasm)

One business owner's experiences prove your point? It may help your point, but unless you have an absurdly low threshold for proof, it doesn't prove anything.

Immaturity knows no age limit ,These are the same people that make posts like, I dont know why I feel so terrible as a person,I wanna kill myself, the world suxs,my life suxs, people suck, nobody wants to hire me, etc.
I really a simple thing to understand......lots of shitty life choices .
Unfortunatly ,we are on a website with alot of addicts who take the drugs to escape thier shitty lives and would like nothing better than to drag you down in thier shithole with them.Keep that in mind as you read these posts offerering advice.
Lots of good members here that are not that way and some of the escapists actually realize thier situations and try to tell others not to go down the same road.

That and the fact that I have never had quitting on the spot hurt my chances for employment.

Wow there is a bunch of shit slingin in this thread.
Word Kumara. the OP is a free person, he can and will do whatever he wants. the '2 week notice', who cares ive quit jobs without notice and still used em on my resume. for wage labor or jobs without prereq's i doubt they check more than one ref if any. this guy is 18, schooling, and working two jobs. thats alot. he doesn't owe anything to employer, he worked and he got paid, why waste time worrying about what happens when he's gone.

This is also a key point. Unskilled, minimum wage jobs usually have a high turnover.
If these are the types of jobs you want to spend your life doing, then references probably won't be required.

Next time I wanna quit a job I'm just gonna burn down the office. That way I don't have to put in my two weeks notice and if I don't get caught it won't hurt my future job opportunities

Oh and by the way, what does school have anything to do with this? Are you assuming he's in school? Multiple people have said "Well he's working two jobs and in school" except the OP.

quitting without 2 weeks notice has never once prevented me from getting another job.
I've been listed as a job reference fr dozens of people, only two companies have ever called me to verify said persons employment.
also keep in mind that the job you are applying for is only allowed to verify that you did work there, and ask if your previous job would hire you back or not.
the company i work for now hired me back after i quit without notice and sent out a "fuck you" email to most of the other management. i flat out told the owner that the only way he could run a company was into the ground.
bottom line is, most jobs don't give a shit if you gave 2 weeks or not. if you are important to the company in a management respect, its a good idea to give notice. if not, fuck it, dont waste your time, you wont do as good of a job anyway.

I live in a metropolitan area of almost a million people, yet it is still almost like a small town when it comes to the business world. You piss off the wrong employer just once and you may cost yourself another job down the road inadvertently via word of mouth.
People who live their lives in fear should just bow down and let the system fuck them I guess.
I live in a very rural state and have NEVER given notice when I quit a factory job. Not once. And have never had any problems finding another job.
So your logic is flawed. You are making large assumptions based on fear.
I'm sure that's the case for your little factory jobs. But I highly doubt you've worked in every industry there is, so you can't claim that I am wrong. For being an adult, you sure come off as an angsty kid...

Never quit a job without a notice, you will lose a reference, totally fuck up your future job opportunities, become a terrible person, and most likely end up killing yourself. It will be the beginning of the end for you. This is just a warning. Do not ruin your life. Think about this for a while, it is probably the single most important decision you will ever make.

NothingIsReal said: Im 18 and have 2 jobs. Basically tomorrow when I get off from Job A I am going to go to Job B, pick up my check, and somehow quit im just not sure how.
I''ve been working for about 3 months and it is a small business with about 10 employees. The owner, manager, and another worker will be there. I feel really bad about not giving a notice, but continuing to work there after letting them know I am quitting is not an option.
Any ideas about how to go about this? I dont really know what approach to take and im not gonna enjoy it because again, i feel bad. I dont like being a dick. Im thinking about handing the owner an envelope with a resignation letting but i feel kinda cheesy doing that considering im 18 and working like 25 hours a week at a small business. Its not like im leaving some sort of corporate career.
And to anyone telling me not to quit without notice, its already gonna happen and im not changing my mind so there is no point in telling me.
...What happened? You do it like a man,did he take it like a man? I didn't see anything in the news about "disgruntled employee kills boss"... . . . . .
