I guess you have never had an employer that treated you like shit. Literally talked down to you and went out of their way to make your job harder. These kind of jobs are generally factory jobs. Shit jobs that people have to do to make a living. If any employer treats you like shit why give them any respect.
Respect is a two way street.
Employers that treat their employees like slaves get no respect from me.
Go work in a factory for a while and you will see where I am coming from.
And the OP didn't say that this employer was a terrible one. You logic is fucking flat out busted.
Because some employers treat their employees like shit and fire them for absurd reasons, then employees should treat their employers without any courtesy?
Nice.

In the OP's situation....how is him quitting on the spot going to hurt his situation?

QFT.
I've had two employers that treated me like shit. You aren't the "bigger man" by telling your employer that you want to resign in two weeks. If they didn't treat me like shit, I wouldn't of had to leave. Respect is earned, not given. I could care less about what happens to the employer doesn't care about me.

How again would it hurt you? I wouldn't want a piece of shit to refer me to another company. I would much rather have a good manager from a different job I work from talk to them. Sorry, but I don't think you understand that concept.

You don't think business owners talk to each other?
I live in a metropolitan area of almost a million people, yet it is still almost like a small town when it comes to the business world. You piss off the wrong employer just once and you may cost yourself another job down the road inadvertently via word of mouth.

Quitting without notice, you won't be able to use them as a reference it will reflect badly on him.

Again, that argument doesn't really work considering we don't have evidence that his employer treats him like shit.

Seeing that the original post was yesterday, and the guy made his decision to quit today, I am guessing that it has already happened. I'm curious to see how it went....

People who live their lives in fear should just bow down and let the system fuck them I guess.
I live in a very rural state and have NEVER given notice when I quit a factory job. Not once. And have never had any problems finding another job.
So your logic is flawed. You are making large assumptions based on fear.

He was working 2 jobs when he quit. He doesn't have to use the job he quit as a reference.

Almost as flawed as the logic you attempted to use above. Feel free to address it at any point.

Go back to page 2, he said he treats them badly. So, once again, try again. I'm pretty sure this defines this as "evidence that his employer treats him like shit"
"Maybe if he wasnt a dick to his employees then they wouldnt steal from him and i wouldnt walk out on him."
Do you read?

I live in a metro area, what's your point? I have plenty of references that would only speak good of me, and if they don't want to talk to them, they probably aren't a very good business man now are they? I highly doubt every single businessman gets together and has tea time, so, once again, I doubt it.

And niteowl, I agree with you then. If he is treated poorly he might as well quit. It would probably be smarter to try to get the reference, but it's understandable.

If by "his situation" you mean the OP then it is terrible for reference. I've made it a point to never leave a job on a sour note. The more good references I have to choose from the better, right?
If you mean "his situation" as in the employer, well it's just fucked. A small business with few employees can probably not afford to lose workers with no notice. All of the other people are going to have to make up for his hours while his boss scrambles to find a new employee all while still running the business.
There's no good reason besides his employer being a complete ass for him to leave a small business with few employees on no notice.

At 18, one minor blemish on your work record is not going to mean shit. Especially if he plans on getting a degree from an institution. I doubt it will even come back to haunt him. When I am out looking for a job with my degree next year, i am confident that my record of quitting an electrical company and a fast food joint without notice when I was 18 will mean nothing to them. In fact I have secured several other small temporary jobs no problem. Don't even think they checked my refs. Its all about making that first impression and convincing them you are a qualified and devoted employee.

Well he's 18 going on 19, not 18 going on 30. The next job he applies for he won't have many references. He could DOUBLE his references by just staying for two more weeks.

Yeah, I was a little rude, but I don't like when people try to make arguments and they don't read the whole thread, especially posts the OP make.

Exactly. Plus, who knows if OP will eventually get fired from his other job. If he does, he has a gap in his work history. If I was an employer I would look at the fact that he had two jobs simultaneously at one point and that would tell me something about his level of responsibility.
