Dunking/Rolling question

So I birthed two BRF cakes last night and rather than being completely white they were kinda brownish from the dry vermiculite layer...I banged the jar on my knee to loosen the cakes in the regular mouth jar but they came out in one piece with no problems.
Did I damage the cake or anything like that? I'm guessing the loose dry vermiculite coated the cake while I was banging it.
Went ahead and dunked them in water...almost 24 hours till the rolling part

the dry layer's just there for a filter to keep out contams. i rinse my cakes off before i dunk them for 12-24 hours.so really that dry layer doesn't need to be there after you birth them then i roll in some verm ! and smacking them out of the jar wont hurt anything

m08b08 is right, the dry stuff usually doesn't colonize unless u turned the jar upsidedown and water came down and it colonized. Dust the dry shit off and dunk.

Yeah i'm sure they were fully colonized...waited a week and they sprouted some metabolites since I gave it a good wait. They were completely white but I shook the jars up with the dry layer so the vermiculite kinda got stuck to the mycelium prior to me opening the jars and dumping out the dry layer. I rinsed it off the best I could but they still look like vanilla cookies with chocolate sprinkles on them except for the bottom which is still white.
