so one of my creeper trays are primarily growing from the sides and poking up from the bottom. as you can see from these pics below. havent had much luck getting a flush on the top. a few but nothing to brag about. what would happen if i took it out of the tray and left in in my martha upside down

who knows??

You can take a peice of wax paper scrunch it up, flatten it back out and laye it on your substrate. That will keep rh high right at the surface to stimulate pinning. Replace it every few days as it gets damp then remove once you have pins.

What kind of fruiting chamber are you using????

Next time line your tray with plastic (black trash bag) the plastic will stick to the substrate and prevent side/bottom pinning.

i had that problem once. it was when i didnt incubate the thing after i put the casing up. but put it straight into the fc and misting it regularly. effectivly sealing the top layer which also ended up only forming mushrooms on the sides.

Good call, will also stop light getting to the sides too.

if you only use a 1/4--1/2 inch casing layer, you wont need to incubate after you apply the casing layer. I always put subs in fruiting conditions at the same time i apply the casing layer and I get pinning alllllll over.

Stuey, are you using a casing layer? How steady is your RH in your martha? What is the general RH?

I think the combination of misting an already wet casing layer was the problem. i incubate it with a casing layer for a week. and i never had the problem again. my casing layer is about 1/4 half of an inch

Dont keep misting your casing layer. Evaporation of moisture is a very important pinning trigger. If you keep your casing layer moist all the time, it will hurt performace.

Mist your casing layer when it starts to dry out. If youir using peat, its easy to tell when to mist as the colour changes.
