Quick question regarding colonized jars
    #10088970 - 04/01/09 06:04 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

I just read that fully colonized jars should be a solid mass... is this true? I hate having to deal with a solid mass, especially when I want to do a G2G transfer.

I believe I've been shaking my jars too much though, a few stalled out and I decided to only shake once now. It seems that solved that problem but now they get fully colonized and then I can't get any rye out for a G2G.

Is it right to let the jars become a solid mass?

I also thought it was bad to dig out the rye with a spoon because it could bust open some of the rye and that could lead to contams once I spawn to bulk.

Just a little confused... how many times should I be shaking and how is a solid mass any good at G2G?

Jars should become a solid mass when 100%.You should only need to shake a jar once, which is after you have enough growth to spread around, then you will let it colonize to 100% from there without shaking again. I take my WBS out of the jars with a fork, and have had no problems...

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol - or THC, the active chemical in weed - is in the same family of organic molecules as anandamide, a chemical found in the human brain that is associated with feelings of bliss such as those released during sex. So on a molecular level, getting laid and getting stoned aren't too different.

I only shake right after injection/transfer. If the jar looks like it is colonizing all on one side, then I shake one more time to mix it up.

I've been using WBS so its not exactly the same as yours, but spooning apart solid cake never led to any problems for me.

When working from spores, you should shake your jars after 20-30% colinisation not after injecting. Reasing being is you want your spores are close together so that they can join with compatible spores as soon as possible.

Yes,  a fully colinised jar should be pretty much completly white. Bang your jars on a fully inflated tyre or roll of gaffa tape, that should loosen the grain and allow to be transfered or spawned.

Oh and if they really are stuck, using a sterilised tool is ok. I know a few people that use a fork/spoon to break up grains.

See, I've used a sterilized spoon... only problem is those jars got contams so I try to not use that method anymore.

Starting to use agar this week, so hopefully soon I won't have to do anymore G2G transfers.

Thanks guys.
