Can you pasturize too long?
    #10088537 - 04/01/09 05:10 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

I started pasturising sub material at 1:30 @ 165f or so. i cheked it an hour in and was still 165-170f . 6 hrs later it's still at 145f +/-. so it looks like i'm stuck waiting till tomorrow to use this material. if i keep it covered overnight could it stay too hot, too long?

You should be fine. I do all my pasteurizing in a giant cooler, and let it sit overnight.

I forgot to mention that I dont even bother taking readings from a thermometer. I just boil the water, then dump it in the cooler. Last time I checked, I think it was as high as 190-200f.

that's pretty much what i'm doing. last time it cooled in time to spawn at night ( like 6 - 8 hrs ) and i still got trich in 3 of 6 probobly not the reason though.

all the teks say to add hot water to maitain temp for 2 hrs so i was supprised to see it stay hot this long. i'm tring not to have to add so much water even though i wring it out anyway.

this time i took a 5 gal bucket and put boiling water in the bottom (like 3" ) then put a second 5 gal bucket in that with the sub and boiling water, covered and wraped with a blanket. only difference from last time is the secondary bucket with hot water. my house is like 64f and have a cold stone floor. that's what must have sucked the heat out last time.

how long is too long to wait? i know the sooner the better but, i may not have time to make up subs tomorrow. do you think if i wait till sat ( 3 days ) i'd be wasting my time?

i dont use a thermometer either, and i use my pressure cooker to do a brick of coir at a time, and just leave it sit in the pressure cooker overnight to cool.I just take the weight off the top and put polyfill over the hole, and leave it like that... It gets hot and stays hot for a long time, i always plan on doing it a day ahead of time and let it sit cause it takes forever to cool

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol - or THC, the active chemical in weed - is in the same family of organic molecules as anandamide, a chemical found in the human brain that is associated with feelings of bliss such as those released during sex. So on a molecular level, getting laid and getting stoned aren't too different.
