i'm in sw british columbia and i found some blueing shrooms in an alder thicket, but i'm not sure which they are. they were found growing in singles and the stem is about 4cm long and the cap is 2 1/2cm wide. my feeling is that they are Psilocybe cyanescens but i would like to be sure.
i have the audubon book but it doesn't show half of the active shrooms in b.c. is there a website that has pictures/descriptions of the rest of the psilocybes in this list? it seems mushroom john's website is down British Columbia Amanita muscaria (Ammirati et al., 1985) Amanita pantherina (Ammirati et al., 1985) Conocybe cyanopus (Atkins) Kuhner. (Stamets, 1993). Gymnopilus luteofolius (Peck) Singer. (Stamets, 1996). Psilocybe baeocystis Singer & Smith. (Guzm?n, 1983). Psilocybe cyanafibrillosa Guzm?n & Stamets. Psilocybe cyanescens Wakefield. (Guzm?n, 1983). Psilocybe fimetaria (Orton) Watling. (Guzm?n, 1983). Psilocybe pelliculosa (Smith) Singer & Smith. (Guzm?n, 1983). Psilocybe semilanceata (Fr.) Kummer. (Guzm?n, 1983). Psilocybe sierrae (Stamets, 1996; Guzm?n, 1983) Psilocybe silvatica (Peck) Singer & Smith. Psilocybe strictipes Singer & Smith=Psilocybe callosa. (Stamets, 1996). Psilocybe stuntzii Guzm?n & Ott. (Guzm?n, 1983). Psilocybe subfimetaria Guzm?n & Smith. (Guzm?n, 1983). Panaeolus subbalteatus Berkeley & Broome.

I will see what I can do for you, where I found them, they were just growing in a lawn in clumps of clover, I am honestly not sure what is underlaying.
I would be very interested in a cyan print however, that would be fantastic. I am trying to grow baeo's from some stem tissue however I am doubtful if it will work.
In my research of how to grow baeo's however people do talk of them growing as any other woodlover would. Who knows? Best of luck bud.

that would be prime if you could just scoop up some mycelium, actually i could just give you some colonized chips. do you have access to a wood chipper? i looked into renting one and its 175$$!! for a couple hours, fucked up!
upon looking at those pics i'm sure what i have is ps. cyanescens, excellent. the ones i found just seemed smaller and have a flatish cap. probably just stunted due to the lack of rain.

did you click on any links in the replies? seriously. i can find a picture on almost every species i want by using dogpile and google. just type in the species. simple. if you think they might be something else, what might they be? my girl found the first cyan in my hometown yesterday. a single. she ate it and was shocked at the power locked in that one single guy. anyway, cyanofibrillosa looks similar enough for mycologists (?) to confuse it with cyanescens. subaeruginosa seems similar enough. nothing else is wavy, though, i dont think.... peace

I dont have access to a wood chipper (at the moment, my grandpa has one in another part of vancouver, but I'm not sure how much of an ordeal it would be to snag that for a day, probably not too bad). However I do know where large piles of chipped alder are located around campus, and I know where the landscaping dudes store all their stuff here, I am heading out friday or saturday to check some places on campus where I saw alder chip piles last year but have since been overgrown with grass and blackberries (prime?? i think and hope so).
I am having trouble putting sentences together, so I am going to go to bed, I'll be back sometime tomorrow I'd imagine - tomorrow I am going to photograph and document exactly where my baeo patch is , so that i can locate it without capaphores showing and perhaps snag some mycelium.
(sorry about legibility / all that, I've been up for a long time )

Get some pictures and we can ID these psilocybes for you! As for you people talking about preparing psilocybe beds your search for woodchips can be a bit more general than just pure alder chips. Looks for anyplace your citys workers have been clearing debris and you will notice they produce many piles of woodchips. Another method is to find a hardwood mill, they produce shittons of excess chippings and are generally happy to let you come take them away. If your up in bham i know there is a good alder factory down in the skagit valley that i personally have gotten many loads of chips from. Rakw

i'm fairly certain that they are ps. cyanescens. the link jovial posted had a nice selection of cyan pics.
i don't know of any hardwood mills around here. i phoned all the woodchip places and they only sell hemlock and fir chips. i'll look into the land clearing debris, also animal bedding is made from hardwood i think. aspen i think, is that suitable?
those bastards won't let me across the border so i won't be coming down anytime soon. :0(

I have heard of alder chips being used before, and the people were giving it positive reviews. I was just thinking for ease of retrieval (instead of buying, going and filling a garbage bag somewhere).

P. Cyanecens and P. cyanafibrilosa do not look similar at all becasue the caps of cyanofibillosa are conical tpo convexed and do not become wavy like P. Cyanescens. The photo losted as P. cyanescens in David Arora's book Mushrooms dymistified is actuall Psilcoybe cyanafibrilosa.
Look at Pauls stamets picture of P. cyanafibrilosa on page 113 od Psilocybin mushrooms of the world with its brown stuntzii colored cap and then look at the hygrophanous changeing from chestnurt to straw colored wavy cap Of Pauls image of Psilocybe cyanescens on page 111 of PMOPTW.
there are a lot of diffenernces between the two species and they look nothing likeeach other.
