here goes: first, anyone have any succes with coffee grinds for ps. cubensis? i have read all the threads i can find, and the references to mr. "i grow on coffee shells in the ground"... but has anyone had any real success with coffe grinds? i'm about to try to innoculate some with mycelial solution tonight.
also, anyone ever build a fruiting chamber with coat hangers and a plastic bag? mine looks dope, and it cost about 5 cents, and it only took a few minutes to bend it all together.
and lastly, has anyone adapted the ramsey seal by replacing the verm with polyfill? i have, and it has worked everytime.
i know those last two are just suggestions, not really questions, just interested in sharing..... peace.

I don't think coffee grounds would make for a very good substrate. Coffee grounds tend to be very acidic, too. I have heard of edibles cultured on coffee grounds, why don't you look into that instead.

"--first, anyone have any succes with coffee grinds for ps. cubensis?--"
Not that I know of, go for it. You never know.
"--anyone ever build a fruiting chamber with coat hangers and a plastic bag?--"
Not that I know of, sounds good.

Sweet.
You should tell us how it goes, mabey a growlog is in order? I'm really curious about the coffee grounds, but aren't they expensive? I guess not if you have a coffee maker, and they'd be boiled anyway! lol Good luck

as fer the edibles on coffee grinds, i'm waiting for joshuas oysters for that one.... and i'm gonna try and get some laetiporous sulphureus going on some dowels, too. but right now i'm busy gearing up for another run at these guys...i understand that they are acidic....buffers abound. just wondering, again, at the risk of being redundant. i love coffee, and the idea won't leave me alone...

I was thinking about this today also. I remembered that Fungi Perfecti had mushies that grew on coffee grounds. They may have been the oyster mushies. Try it and see. I know it will grow contams prett easily. I used to save it fo rthe compost pile, and it would get orange(among other colors) growing on it.

sorry, newbie here: do you mean replace the top layer of vermiculite in jars with polyfil? that sounds like it might be a good idea.

http://shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=67 if you click this link and read the document, you will understand the ramsey seal. it involves the use of foil to suspend between the cap and the substrate a contaminant barrier. i opted to use polyfill in place of vermiculite in some cultures i did this spring, and it worked wonderfully. recently a friend has also had nothing but success with the same method of seal. a poor man's filter patch, if you will. probably not a new twist, even, but has worked for perfectly so far for many many jars. possibly not so convenient when doing grain to grain, but for syringe techniques it is fine. on the other hand, if i had tyvck, why would i care? peace

I've only read one tek in which coffee beans are used, and the tek did not sound too reliable. If you do decide to use coffee beans, you need unroasted beans.
