Does this sound like it would work

Hey i have only done pf jars once before. I still have a lot of brf and verm and spores and want to make as much as i can with these mats. when I run out im going to move on to horse manure. The first time I just did bare cakes and fruited them on top of perlite. This time I think I am going to oven sterilize 1 jar . Then after its fully colonized im going to crumble it into brf/verm that is inside an aluminum tray and let it colonize. Then when it is done I am going to cover the top of the colonized substrate with sterilized wet verm. Also is the yield for using manure much more? Because if it is I may just buy some and use the cake to colonize that instead. ps. if anyone knows could you sterilize polyfill in an oven (at 240?)

i dont understand...why would you want to use your oven? It really has no place in mycology. Also, when you spawn your colonized cake to more brf/verm, how do you plan on sterilizing the brf/verm you plan to spawn to?? You should just sterilize the cake as normal in a steam pot or pressure cooker, and spawn it to hpoo when fully colonized.

Im going to sterilize the stuff i plan to spawn too inside an aluminum tray. I want to use an oven because it can reach the same temps as a PC and is much easier to use. Also my PC is quite small and I dont feel like shelling out 100$ or more when an oven should work just as well.

no, its not going to work just as well. if it did, people wouldnt be shelling out money for pressure cookers. Water cannot exist in a liquid state above 212 degrees unless it is under pressure. What will you do when all your moisture leaves your substrate and it dries out? You should sterilize in jars as normal, and then dump into your tray if you REALLY want to go the route of spawning to brf/verm. Dry heat is a lot different then wet heat, and your oven will not do the same thing as a pressure cooker.

This post is a Shroomery abortion; I'm going to try and pick through it as best I can:
The problem with oven sterilization is that your oven isn't operating at 15 PSI.
Polyfil doesn't need to be sterilized on its own. It's inorganic.
If you think ovens could be used for sterilization, don't you think more people would have grow logs and teks posted utilizing them? The interior of your jars will never reach sterilization temperatures, and if they do, they'll dry out and burn, making your kitchen smell like ass.
Casing with vermiculite is almost like using no casing layer at all.

You cant use the oven to reach pressure cooker temperatures. Air is a poor conuctor of heat and at best, you will reach boiling point, then probably dry out your substrate.
Spawning your cakes to a tray of pf substrate is a bad idea. Theres nothing in it that will help ward of contamination like in other bulk substrates. It will most likely contaminated really quickly, jsut see what happens to brf that has been sterilised then exposed to air. Its basicaly free food for anything that may land on it.
Make up pf jars as normal, and instead of birthing them, crumble and mix with a bulk substrate that has been pasturised.
Yield will obvoisly be better with a bulk substrate compared to that of cakes, since you have expanded you mycelial network. If you spawn at 1:3 you have expanded 3 fold and it should only take a week to fully colinise.

That sounds good. You can get substrate pre pasturized right? . So all I'd really need to do is sterilize the jar, crumble(after colonize), and wait. Thanks for the responses btw. This forum is really helpful.
