a few hours ago I was looking at my beautiful two cakes which are fruiting away nicely and I noticed something other than white, possibly green but maybe blue concentrated on the top corner of one of them so I sterilized a sharp knife and did some surgery. Now just a few minutes ago I returned to find that at the spot I cut away, there is a *colour* which I'm having trouble distinguishing. It is slightly blue yet maybe green, and the cake has a few spots with this same slightly blue or green colour. In the few hours since the surgery it got this colour on a bunch of different spots all at once. Do you think mold can spread this fast or am I just being paranoid about some bruising and damage from something like dehydration?
The portion where the surgery was made has possibly bruised blue. Also, if you touched the cake while making that surgery is natural to see some blueing in the places you touched. If those spots don't grow anymore and don't change color then you should be ok. A quick test is to grab a piece of cotton, soak it in h2o2 and carefully rub it in those places, you shouldn't get any color in the cotton piece.
