Hello all, I am about to spawn my rye to a bulk substrate and I have access to the following ingredients :
Vermiculite Coir Gypsum Used Coffee Grinds
If possible, could you guys and gals provide an exact list of the different ratios for each ingredient needed based on volume in cups to spawn to bulk 500ml of inoculated rye substrate? For example, 1/2 cup of verm, 1/2 cup of coir, 1/2 cup of gypsum, and 1/4 cup of used coffee grinds to use as a bulk substrate for 500ml (1/2 quart) of rye substrate. Also, a step by step list of how to go about preparing the above mentioned ingredients to make a bulk substrate would also be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I will tell you what I used to do but you may have to make adjustments for what you are doing.I always liked to be heavy on the spawn for fast colonization and what I used to do was 4 quarts of rye spawn for every half brick of coir and two pots worth of coffee grounds,I know the coffee grounds is far from an exact measurement but this gave me a depth of around 4 inch's in a 16 qt sweater box this is what I used to fill my greenhouse with all the time and it almost always worked flawlessly.Never used coir in the mix and only used gypsum in the grains so they were less likely to stick together in the jar,as far as step by step. You don't need that really cause it couldn't get any simper, just hydrate the coir with boiling water, when it is cool brew up the coffee grinds, add them, add spawn and your done.aside from the measurements Ive given here I never measured anything or I would be more exact but Ive been "Retired" for a while and I'm a bit rusty anyway

Answered here. The only thing left to know is the exact ratios for each of the ingredients to make enough bulk substrate for one 500ml jar of colonized rye.

I'd say go with a 1:2 spawn ratio.
With 1 pint of spawn, go with a 65/20/10/5 ratio of coir/verm/coffee/gpysum.
So for one quart of bulk sub, you'll need:
2 1/3 cups of coir(hydrated) You'll have to figure that one out. 1 cup of verm 1/2 cup of coffee grounds(used or new) and 1/4 cup of gypsum.
Pasteurize using RR's pasteurization method (search his posts for it)
