THIS IS WHAT IT IS: Schizophyllum commune

here's some reading for learners: http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/feb2000.html
get rid of it quickly. that shit is the most common mushroom for a reason, it's resilient as fuck.

Interestingly, this fungus has also been known to cause a human mycosis in just a few cases involving immunoincompetent people, especially children. In one case, the fungus had grown through the soft palate of a child's mouth and was actually forming fruiting bodies (mushrooms) in her sinuses!!!

So am i to understand that the spores to these were just floating around and got lucky enough to land on his cakes, and beat out his cubies? Thats terrible, waiting 2+ weeks for some mushroom that will grow in your kids mouth!

I wonder could his spores have come from a wild sample that was contaminated with spores from these? I'd say it is unlikely that they just landed on his cakes. I think it is more likely that they were contaminated before inoculation. It will be interesting to see what the other cakes will turn out like.

I bought them as syringes. I don't have a high level of experience but these are about 5th or 6th round of cakes, and I've never had a contaminate, (though I've had a few that just never took), which is why this is weird to me. I would never eat something I didn't know for sure, but I just can't figure out how a cake can start with one kind of spores and grow something completely different. I need to get a microscope, it's the one thing I don't have and would like to. Maybe once they're done I can print them and send them to someone who knows more. I'll post more pics when they get a little bigger.

This pic is the cakes that were right next to the contaminated one. They're pinning like crazy. You can see the ring on the perlite were the contam cake was sitting.

I heard sporeworks and ralphsters are both pretty good. I'll try one of them next. My first order from hawkseye worked out real good. It's just these funky mushies on one cake now. I can say I hope I don't see those mushies again.

Seeing this happen may be even worse than seeing Trich all over your cakes. At least Trich is expected...

does anyone think that if I carve off the half of the cake that doesn't have these growing off of it, the other half will still have a chance of fruiting the right shit?

Trich = trichoderma it is green 'forest mold' that is VERY common in many places around the world. It likes to grow faster than out mushroom mycelium, basically killing it off.
