Has anyone payed attention to the way their pan mycelium looks on top of a casing layer?

It usually starts off very white, and very fluffy, but then it flattens out. I noticed at www.mushmush.nl that Anno keeps his mycelium fluffy all the way until pinning, how I don't know. I also noticed the same thing at procare http://www.pilzen.com/images/copo1.jpg . Look at the corner of the box in that picture. That is some pretty fluffy snow going on there.

I think there might be a direct correlation in the quality of your flush and the fuzziness of your mycelium in your casing layer. Also I've noticed that spawn on pasteurized manure gets really fuzzy, and in only a few days. But straw:manure never gets fuzzy looking. Sterilizing straw:manure:vermiculite as seen at mushmush never produces very fluffy mycelium, but I bet if one were to lay a 1/4 " of pasteurized manure over the top of colonized straw:manure:vermiculite, that within 4 days, it would overlay completely in a very fuzzy mass. If you were to follow that with a 50/50 casing, I think this would dramatically increase your quality of flush for any pans.

Am I crazyfor noticiing the fuzzyness of the mycelium? Any suggestions?

Anno, I mean Una. I'm sorry. Una, I'd like to know how you keep your mycelium on your casing looking very fluffy.

Sorry about the name swapping.

Hmmm interesting. I think that the reason that alot of the casings you see dont have th fluffy white mycelium is because peole are misting thier casings directly, instead of the walls of the terrerium like you are suppose to. Just my 2?
