Here are a few pictures from some Ecuador cakes about 5 days old in the terrarium. It's 70-75 F and 99% RH. I just wanted to know if the fluff on my cakes is contams or myc. Any help? Peace!

Yep you have some knots there, I'd keep an eye out on that fuzzy white though.

Your cake looks great. Patience, I can tell your anxious to see pins. keep your cake in the fruiting chamber, and you will be rewarded soon enough.

Doesn't really matter what anyone here says... it will pin when it is ready. Mushroom cultivation cultivates patience. Nice looking cake btw

Patience young grasshoppa It'll happen when it happens. No exact time set in stone. Almost every strain I've worked with seems to preform differently on each stage in the life cycle of a mushroom. If those are indeed hyphal-knots, then you can expect pins to follow soon after... when you first birth a cake, the surface of the cake is fluffed and smooth (Cause its pushed up against the glass). Then when it gets put into fruiting conditions, the outer surface loses a lil moisture, and the fluffed mycelium withers back revealing the lumpy surface of the substrate (Vermiculite grains), and people often think this lumpy surface is knotting.

Alright, thanks guys. I did have one other question. Does it matter how much light the cakes get? I have mine exposed to indirect light 24hrs a day.

Light plays a small roll as a pinning trigger, but it is important none the less during fruiting. You want to stay away from incandescent lights. Go with fluorescent. I personally use this (on a timer 12 on, 12 off)
 (Wal*mart, for like $2)
Indirect sunlight is good too.

Yea I have those "Day Light" bulbs that I keep on it for 24 hours. I just wanted to make sure that there is no such thing as "too much light".

Popular opinion is 12 hours on and 12 hours off, similar to what is natural. This is generally considered to give the best results, but it depends on who you ask, I'm sure. I don't think 24 hours on is going to ruin anything but it also may not be ideal.

so is 24 hours of light going to hurt the cake? i want to keep a flourescant lite very close up to it for 12 hours, right after birthing...is that ok?
and another thing on a side note, after i soak them for 24 hours, how long should i wait to mist the whole entire cake again?

After you birth it, just mist first then fan about 4-6 times a day

RR specifically explains misting after dunking and rolling.
