Please give feedback...

I have had fully colinized cakes in my terarrium for like a month or more, trying to figure out what is wrong that will prevent my cakes from fruiting.

I have a 15 gallon air pump in a 58 l rubbermaid with several holes in the sides and many at the top, perlite on the bottom.

I thought the pump would make for good FAE and the perlite for humidity, and natural light and room temp would be OK to promote fruiting.

after a few weeks i then dunked for 24 hours and rolled, still nothing, not even colonizing over the dry verm.

I mist every day, a ton. I fan every day at least once, and there are no contams.

What am i doing wrong?

Can you give the parameters. My guess is you just dont have the right rH. OR you just need to wait a bit longer.

Possibly scratch off a small piece of your cake to reveal a fresh myc lair, and give it a good sniff. This fresh myc will more easily admit a obvious mushroom type smell if its cube myc. Its possible your cakes colonized with a white contam mycelium (cobweb)? So if it doesn't smell like a yummy mushroom, then you might have a contam. Also a nuther sign that its active mushroom mycelium is that when you scratch off the area, it might bruise a bluish teal color. If it bruises then its a dead giveaway your working with active mushroom mycelium.

Is it possible your working with a B+ strain ? I have had sketchy growth, and fruiting performance with B+.

You may not have sufficient humidity with the holes and the air pump. You kinda have a shotgun/pmp going. You could ditch the air pump, you would then have a regular shotgun FC. I've never used a shotgun, but I know from pics that they work very well. A month is a little much. Do you have a hygrometer?

Even if you had 60% rh, you could still fruit mushrooms. Not saying 60% is superb fruiting humidity, just saying its possible.

Yeah your not humid enough. Boris and Grewya have good suggestions.  When I grew cakes I used perilite in a rubbermade with a simple air pump through a small hole in the side (sealed off)  No fanning other than that and it kept at 100%.  I'd stop misting with the perilite too, it should be enough to do that once after a dunk and roll.

Make sure you are cycling your light, 12 on 12 off is fine.

Kind of an obvious point, but I've seen people over look things more obvious than that.

Boris I am growing B+, i am running the pump into a bubble wand thing in a 1 inch deep "lake" in the middle of the tank with the cakes on the outside.

So i should scratch the cakes to get some fresh myc growth? its been a really freaking long time without any signs of drying out, pinning, new growth, basically anything. The FC feels humid inside so im confident its not really that (plus i mist alot... more the better????)... Is the air pump (15 gal) too small to get enough FAE?

im straight stumped, ive been trying sooo hard, and i should be seeing something by now... please help

Yeah, I have found B+ to be a pain in the ass. lookup a pmp (Pore mans pod) fruiting chamber tek. Its the best way to implement a air pump into your FC. Sounds like you have all the supplies needed for a PMP, you just don't have them organized in a efficient way like in a pmp.

https://www.shroomery.org/9047/Poor-Mans-Pod

You can sub perlight for the geo-stones.

Don't get discouraged, you will eventually see pins. I know how nerve-racking it can be. IMO, B+ is not a good beginners strain. I to started with B+, but I also did GT's at the same time. GT's came out great, so I had something to soothe my nerves (Knowing it was just shitty genetics in the B+, since the GTs were doing fine).

try breaking up a cake and casing it to see if the added micro climate of the casing will help.

you could try to spawn or transfer one of your cakes to a new sub too to see if you actually have mycelium or to see if your myc is still viable.

word...some of them are like breaking with a light squeze, some are showing small patchy grey white fuzz, not cobweb looking (but not as soft as the underlying mycelium) overgrowing the verm layer on the better looking cakes....so that might be good signs for those cakes right?

the ones that break can be made into testers for my first casing, whats a good easy substrate mix (with proportions) involving BRF and verm and water? and do i incubate them and whatnot first? how small do i break up the cakes? Mix them in or on top?

thanks for the ideas, and should i upgrade the air pump/ put in a timed light for the FC?

As you can tell, this shits straight stumping me... i have all the fruiting elements there (FAE, Humidity, Natural indirect light)but after over a month not even a pin.

if they are breaking apart that easily then you have a contaminiation. not guaranteed but most likely contam. something eating the sub/myc from the inside out.

grey white fuzz is likely also contam. if you think it looks diff than the healthy colonizing myc it probably is.

if you upgrade your air pump upgrade with a FILTER. no filter means you are just charging poluted air into your fc.

you are worryng too much about the light. where light is important you dont need direct lighting to initiate pinning. someones magic 8-ball says that indirect lighting from a window on a natural light cycle is all you need. in most cases that is all that's provided in nature. picture a colony under a tree. very little direct light involved.

Are you sure they are fully colonized. Also check for contams. It could also be the humidity, try using casing as its an easy way to give them enough moisture. Or it could be you are misting too much. Try misting only once a day or less and see if you get pins within a few days.

ok i cased the squishy cakes and left the other 5 in the fc and have a replica of the poor mans pod...

as far as the casings, lid on or off? incubating conditions or FC conditions? mist? fan?

You dont need a lid unless you are trying to get the mushrooms to colonize onto more substrate you added. I think 60 and higher is ok conditions for temp. they could probably even do it in lower conditions. I had 6 pf cakes fruit by fanning for 20 seconds once or twice a day. Mist the casing layer when it is dry and make it moist. Not soaked just moist.
Just make sure you dont mist them that much, I only did it once a day or less and they were fine. If you think that they are too dry (the ones without casing) then try using perlite on the bottom. I used an air pump once and it didnt work well. Thats why I am just going to use casing because its a much easier way to give them enough moisture.

casings. lid on in the fc. you sould cover a cased tray with foil until the myc populates some of the casing then uncover and put in your pmp with a cover on the pmp.
