Popcorn w/ Casing - "Under Layer" Question.
    #10071288 - 03/30/09 12:02 AM (15 years, 3 days ago)

I have been reading alot on here.. But just need a simple clarification.. I am using popcorn with a casing of Verm/Spent Coffee/Coir/Peat.. Pasteurized of course.. Does anyone put a layer of verm or anything before the colonized grains in a pan for fruiting?.. I understand the casing layer should not have nutes in it.. If it's misted periodically, would I need a "under layer" ?

Thanks for the wealth of knowledge!

no, dont use a bottom layer, which will encourage pinning where you cant tend to it.

why are you using coffee in your casing layer, its used as ad addition to bulk substrates, plus it can make your casing layer acidic, which as bad. Contams love acidic enviroments.

Keep coir/coffee for bulk substrates, use the 50/50+ tek for casing layers
