Hi guys. I've done some searching and read the faqs but I just wanted to be perfectly clear on something before i do anything. I know you guys gotta hate newbie questions.
Innoculated jars 4 days ago and no signs of growth. There is a little condensation on the inside of jars (a few drops here and there) and have kinda gotten the impression that the holes used for innoculation shouldn't be covered with tape. They are currently covered with scotch tape.
Should i remove the tape? I found a few posts pertaining to this and they said its best to remove tape and flip jars. But I wasn't sure what stage of colinization they were refering to.
So should I flip jars and/or remove tape at this point to get colinization going?
Thanks in advance.

Give them more time. I never used tape on my innoculation holes. But let them sit longer it takes time. Also the area you are incubating in may play a nice role on this.

It can sometimes take a good two weeks before you see growth. Give them time... (I have read that it can take up to a month in some cases, but I have never seen it take that long myslef)

I've left my jars taped at least until i get some solid colonization in the upper portion of the jar to help ward off contams. But if you untape em now it might help speed colonization.
I wouldn't flip the jars till they are about 60% or 70% colonized, otherwise it defeats the purpose of flipping. (This is also when I untape the holes.)
Do whatever seems right to you.

In this particular scenario, what IS the purpose of flipping the jars?

Thanks guys. I'll just wait it out and see what happens. No vermiculite layer on top so i'm gonna leave the tape on for now.

I'd say give it at least one more week and if still nothing, then it could be a number of things. Did you let the jars cool long enough before innoculating? What temp are you keeping the jars in? What is you substrate?

To germinate spores, 86F is good for a couple days, then 80-84F fo growth...
