Anyone use this hygrometer?.....its makin me angry!
    #10052902 - 03/27/09 01:37 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I recently purchased this hygrometer from http://www.bargainhumidors.com/bh/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=ACC-ANALOG
When i got it i wrapped in up in two wet paper towels and let sit for 30 min. I take it out and go to calibrate it and the damn screw wont budge! Well it will but it feels like if i turn any harder its gonna snap the screw right off! So ive gone through this process about 5 times now without sucess. It does the same thing every time! Anyone know what my problem could be? Thanks for you time and input guys!

Force it.  If it breaks, it breaks.  It's only a $5 loss.  I'd suggest wrapping up in a damp bath towel though.  You want to make sure the hygrometer is sensing saturation humidity before you adjust to 99%.

when it comes to hygrometers, you get what you pay for. (in my experience)

taylor makes a good digital hygrometer, although mine did die after a couple years in my FC.

He also said he had a model for 19.00 or something that was digital that worked up to 95%. Is this too good to be true?

i've never seen a digital hygrometer that worked accurately for mycology purposes that was under ~$40.

this is what i use:

http://www.centralchef.com/storefrontprofiles/DeluxeSFItemDetail.aspx?sid=1&sfid=123094&c=0&i=236691247

although you can just buy the small additional one for 20 dollars, but i like having my hygrometer remotely viewable in my living room. its your choice if you want to spend the extra 20.

http://www.centralchef.com/storefrontprofiles/processfeed.aspx?sfid=123094&i=191539286&mpid=7714&dfid=1

but while searching i found this which is also by taylor. i dont have any experience with it but it sure is cheap:

i think a big part of using digital hygrometers is getting one that other people have verified lasting longer then a few weeks at 95%+ humidity.

alot of these say they are accurate to 99% but it doesnt mean they are built well enough to withstand that kind of saturation for long periods of time.

theres a parent unit for it if you ever want to buy it, its linked above.

buy with confidence. i think it was hippy chick who recommended it to me years ago on an old account.

yeah thats what you want, just put it in your chamber.

$40 was for that unit and the remote parent unit that goes with it. but you dont need both unless you want both.
