BIRDSEED
    #1004708 - 10/30/02 12:19 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Has anyone here had to wait 7 or more days to see sighns of growth using the birdseed Tek?
Details are:

- Wild Finch Seed
- B+ Strain
- 80degrees warm, and 50% Humidity in incubation
- Polyfill air exchange tek
- Each jar recived 5ml spore solution
- Jars were inoculated when cooled down
- Zero Contams so far
- Opened one jar, heathy, no sighn of growth in middle either

So after 5-6 day I havent seen one little sighn ( White mycelium) of growth
Im usualy more patient than this, but the feedback would sure help me out, I'm stumped.

Well you got to look at it this way, either they'll germinate or they won't. Worrying won't do a damn thing to speed things up, it'll only make it seem longer. If it doesn't show signs two weeks after inoculation, then start to think about starting over.

Be patient. Skikid is on the money.

But, as an after thought. You say "finch seed". Some smaller bags of spendy brand name finch seed are sometimes treated with an anti/fungal agent.  Which could be your problem. Check the bag & read the fine print, on it.

Have you dealt with the vendor before that, sold you the syringes? Shit happens sometimes. Most often contam's, if you get a shitty syringe. But, you state no contam's showing. At least that is a good sign.

This is one of the reasons I love G2G transfers. You know what your putting in another jar, and they colonize faster than white on rice.

Here is a jar of bird seed on day 6 that was innoc'ed with spores. You can see where the syringe squirts went. I do one squirt in each corner & 1 in the center. Hope yours looks like this - soon.

Nice jar, It was really strange when my jar first started showing growth cause it was near the bottom. I was so used to BRF cakes and seeing the growth start from the top and work its way down.

I once had to wait damn near 2 weeks for some Cambodians to get started. While the Equadors took off in something like 4. Both innocculated same time, w/ same method, & environmental conditions. If both are supposed to be fast my guess is that the Cambo print (in your case syringe-or like in mine, print it came from) might just be old and need a little time. Or is fine but still needs time.

(4 days that is)

I had some birdseed jars of Thai KS take almost two weeks to show some growth. I had innoc'd some pf jars of PR's using brf at the same time. The pf jars were fully colonized, so I was discouraged about the birdseed jars and was picking them up to throw them out when I noticed a small spot or two of myc in each. I put them back in and in the next week all were nearly fully colonized. Patience is definately the key. I'm glad I didn't throw them away!

Well, I guess I'll just let them sit in the incubator and forget about them for another week.

If I dont see anything in another week, I'll probably go with the grain to grain transfer.
