Just got me an AA X75. Sterilizer.

It's the biggest they make, and it's self heating. I just plug it in to a regular grounded wall plug and PC away!

I love it

I'd say get the AA930 if your looking for a cooker; if your looking for a sterilizer, then I suggest the AA 925X.

930 holds 14 qt jars and 925X holds 7 qts.

I've got two of those, and a 921.  I like the 75X because I plug it in, set the thermostat on 5 and walk away(after closing the toggle valve ten minutes after steam begins escaping).  The 941 is the same size, but holds a bit more because the built in element on the 75X requires more water, thus you can't load quite as many jars in it.  I mostly use my 921 for jars, and the 75X for filter patch bags.

RR, how do you space your bags?  How many bags will that that arrangement allow in the 75X?

So it probably isn't recomended to use a sterilizer to can food. cause my AA 921 is used to sterilize all sort of things. Food, rye, WTS, in the food section I have even done meat. Which is a little scary looking sitting on the shelf.

I love my 931!!

14 qts fit nicely in it and it is about as big as I would want to go, just for the shear fact that I do use it for smaller, quicker projects from time to time.

$800 shipped with the base. It makes absolutely no sound whatsoever. It doen't smell either. Unlike the mirro's with a weight, this doesn't exhaust the steam until you reach 26psi.

It makes stealth PC operation Absolutely PRICELESS!

Don't forget to leave the toggle open for the first few minutes after steam begins to escape.  You need to get all the air out.

You can use a sterilizer to can, but you have to watch it like a hawk and open the toggle valve exactly as it cools to zero psi.  If you fail to do that, it pulls a vacuum in the sterilizer itself, and the jar lids don't seal tight, thus you don't get a vacuum inside the jars where you need it.  In addition, it causes the liquid in the jars to boil over.  I use my AA 921 for canning food and sterilizing agar.

The main problem with the 941 is it's so damn heavy on your stove burner, and with many of the smaller, cheap-ass made in mexico and china ranges today, it's impossible to position it where the burner is in the center of the PC.  The 25X and 75X plug into a wall outlet, so you don't have that problem.  The sterilizers also have a thermostat, so you can set them and go watch a movie without constantly being there to adjust your stove burner through the cycle.  I run my 75X at 20 psi.
