i've got two boxes Size: height: 10" width:11" length:16" i don't know what that is in volume.. would these be appropriate for 1.) a tub in tub? 2.) twenty half pint jars.? the jars do fit in one btw.. when they're stacked.
i was thinking of getting a 50 watt aquarium heater to go with... sound good? plausible?

I've read/heard that unless you live way north, Like Alaska, Then A TIT isn't a necessity in the incubation process. Room temperature works like a charm.. I have fluctuating temperatures in my house right now do to a broken AC, So whatever the temp is outside my house is about the same on the inside.. Although much colder at night..
Im pretty sure tho, If One tub holds the other tub nicely with enough room for it to fit almost completely inside of the larger tub.. there should be no problems.. I went through the motions of making a TIT, by the time I was done tweaking it out for ideal incubation conditions, I saw that my BRF jars were colonizing just fine sitting in my room..

Yep,nearly everyone ditches there tub in tub after a while, all it does is speed up the growth of bacterial contamination, your jars may colonize a little bit slower at room temp but its worth it in the long run

I just read through a bunch of info that this site has which indicates that with even temps. as low as 30-40's range the jars will colonize, though at a slower rate. Remember that a covered tub won't allow enough FAE for the colonization and may stall the process.

Colonizing jars don't need excessive amounts of FAE if any... That's the point of the inoculation ports in the lid, or any other method of jar lids for that matter...jar lids with Foil, and a retired dog food holder with a towel placed in the bottom that the jars sit on is my incubator, which sits in the corner of my room

You would want to use a water pump too.

i use my TiT as a dirty laundry basket. i stopped using it a week after i set it up.
the problem with amateur mycology is that you see all these cool contraptions that other amateurs have created and you immediately want to build it, or add a fan too it, etc etc, but then after a while you realize it has no point and it causes more harm then good, and you are out a bunch of money.
a space heater in the same room as your incubating spawn will work just fine if you can't manage to keep the room at 75-80

yeh that would be ideal.... however a 1kw heater costs £12 ~ to run per week! whereas the fish tank heater is only .05kw dunno per week .. but it's gotta be cheaper. b

i hear that. i live in a warm climate so worst case for me is i turn on the heater at night for a few hours if the temp drops below 75.
