Handy dandy cultivation tip
    #1001637 - 10/28/02 10:29 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

I don't know if anyone else around the shroomery does this and just keeps it a secret, or if I'm just an innovative genious.

The best way that i've found to mark your pf tek jars (or grain jars, or any type of jar or casing or whatever)  is to use Vis a Vis markers.  They are wet erase, so it doesn't come off just by rubbing the ink, and they write exceptionally well on glass.  If you make a mistake just lick your thumb and wipe it off, the ink comes off when you clean your jars (or anytime with just some water and a paper towel).   I don't know about everyone else but i hate screwing with labels, post-its, tape....  all that junk, it's ten times easier to just write on the jars.

I use them to number my jars and to put innoculation dates, strain, 100% dates, etc.  It's also really neat to trace around your mycelium at about 25 or 50% colonization and watch how it moves a little more everyday.     Mabey it's not the best innovation since pf tek, but it's really easy and comes in handy.

Nice tip! Can you procure these from OfficeMax or Staples?

Yeah, Office Max and Staples are probably a good bet.  If not, try a Techer/school supply store type of place, teachers use them a lot on the overhead projectors.  I had a teacher who would do entire lessons on just the glass on the OP and just wipe it off at the end of class with windex.   If you have kids in school ask a teacher where to get em.

Try Office Max or Staples first though.  Probably a couple bucks.

did that my first time a year ago. used a sharpie though. Had to wash them to get it off. used to do all different mixes in the jars and marked them as they were made, so the #'s would stay on in the pc. had the jars with the diamond print on them so it was a bitch tracing them, but it was fun whenever they grew a millimeter.

Yeah the Vis a Vis markers (made my sanford, BTW) are really easy to erase. The downside is that if your jars get wet or if you touch the ink with wet hands it comes right off.
