Getting an auto loan.

Seeing as the Money Matters has 3 viewing and the Pub has damn near 100 I'll ask here.
I was just turned down for a $5k auto loan from my bank. No surprise there, my credit sucks. I'm finally getting caught up on my bills and everything and I need a car. I've been without one since July and I can't borrow my Dad's forever. I asked what the parameters for an auto loan were and he told me I would need a low debt to income ratio. I owe $35k+ in student loans, so there no way in fuck I'm getting a loan from my bank.
Does anyone have experience with one of those low/no/bad credit loan places? Beggars can't be choosers so I'm not looking for a Corvette or anything but I need something like $5-7k that'll get me 12 miles to work and back every day.
Help?

I can get a nice Tiburon for under $5k too, but it's the loan I'm concerned about. It would take me a year to save $5k.

you should be able to find one, your gonna be stuck with a ridiculous interest rate though. Just stay on top of payments and refi when and if you can. Forget about dealerships if you got bad credit right now unless you got a hefty down payment or co-signers.

I don't see why that debt should matter, aren't student loans still seen as good debt on your credit being that more education means more money in the future? That's how it used to be but then again this economy is fucked beyond belief right now.
I would second the Honda decision though, maybe toyota as well.
And just bc I got on the topic of the economy, fuck all the bastards at AIG

I was toled this by an economics teacher I had a while back, I believe there is other types of "good" debt to but generally apply to business and no the everyday individual

You will problably need to put down a substantial down payment or find a co-signer with good credit to get a loan. Sucks don't it? My credit is fucked too.

It's an endless fucking cycle. Not having money when I need it for things like a car makes me want to do a lot of very illegal things to obtain it.

You should be able to get a decent car for much less than 5K.

I'd say maybe you should check into the place I got the no-credit loan for my truck years ago, but
THEY ARE OWNED BY AIG.
