This is my first day of trying to give up I've been smoking for years.10-15 cigs a day. I tried a few times recently but only lasted hours. I'm gonna go cold turkey as I don't believe in the nicotine replacement things, tried them didn't help.
Anyone had any success quitting?

Over 4 weeks now after 35 + years of smoking. My lungs are just starting to feel better. Tobacco is nasty and poisonous. Just say no. . . . . and .

Yea I quit more than 6 months ago (i cant even remember the last time i smoked a cig) and these things were pretty much necessary for my success
1. smoke weed
2. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS and use nicotine lozenges, gum or last resort the patch.
3. Exercise as much as possible, preferably cardio like running
4. Use herbs like passion flower, st johns wort and ginkgo biloba
5. Eat vegetables, organic berries and antioxidants 6. Take Magnesium Citrate supplements with orange juice daily
and the last transition I made was going from the lozenges to just normal Orbit gum and just smoking herb all the while. Exercise really helped clean out my system and Magnesium Citrate is necessary for detox.
good luck

I tried quitting 3 weeks ago, I did one week, as soon as I took adderal again for school work I couldn't get away from them, the only way to substitute a cig is to have a small bowl of weed, I wish you luck they're a bitch to get away from it's really sad how we can crave them so badly and believe their the only thing that can make us feel better, damn you evil tobacco

I quit smoking cigarettes about 8 years ago.
I was smoking a pack a day at the time.
It was very hard because of my addictive personality.
I did it cold turkey, like you.
I kept a half pack of nasty ass Dorals on me for months.
I figured if I was going to relapse, it would be with the stalest nastiest cig out there.
Good luck brother! It is gonna suck, but you can do it.
I felt like I had a split personality: one that wanted to quit smoking, and one that taunted me by constantly reminding me that I should reward myself with the object of my obsessive oral fixation.
It was as if I would get real excited for a second about the involuntary thought of indulging with a smoke, before having my good half remind me that there was nothing to get excited about, because I was going to just suffer.
I also fought with the negative notion that I was only going to fail, which led me to want to reward myself with a smoke for being such a failure, which led to excitment...you get the idea.
I probably did not help that I made no other change in my lifestyle at the time. I was doing coke everyday and acid about once a week, so needless to say, I was awake at unnecessary hours struggling with myself.
I would think that smoking weed would be benificial too. I rolled up a bunch of tiny joints, then I would smoke one, and right afterward when the cigarette urge would kick in, I'd smoke another little joint!

Exercise, long walks were my best ways of helping to kill the cravings. I ended up relapsing due to dumb shit, but since spring coming back around I might try it again. BTW cold turkey is the best way to go about it, if your able to just completely stop you have a much better chance of not relapsing. Takes time, patience, and all you got to stop GL to ya man.

dont think you can keep a pack around you and quit, every craving you'll be thinkin.. yea i got that pack right over there, i just gotta walk over there and get it. if your having a bad day most likely youll givein. if you have to drive to a store, then mabee you'll just say fck-it.
if you have a craving just remember in less than.. hmm id say 30 minutes it will be gone. so make yourself wait 30 before you cave.
or mabee just pretend you have lung cancer, tell everyone you have cancer. they'll be happy when you dont die. . SENDING YOU GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR ENDEAVORS .

I kept a pack on me and quit. My Dad told me that was how he quit, so it worked for him too.
Everyone is different and different things worked for different people.
Like I said before, I did pot, acid, and coke all the time and kept a half pack of Dorals on me, but I never smoked them.
It is probably not the most highly recommended strategy, but keeping smokes on me worked great for me. It kept the temptation within arm's reach.
If someone is gonna smoke, they are gonna smoke. If a relapse is going to happen, it will happen regardless of whether or not you have smokes on your person.
It helped me to know that if I was going to smoke, I wouldn't have to run to the store @ 3AM to get a pack. It simplified things and kept things consistent.

I've been smoking for six years, quit cold turkey for a girl once, but haven't been successful in repeating it. I need to quit smoking ASAP, because I'm joining the army in a few months.
