nice.  how old is it?  i would have thought it'd be a bit bigger before being able to flower.

i ask because i started three from seed about a year ago, and they have since gotten quite large sitting in the window. i can't wait to get them out into the sun this summer.

I'm not really sure if it's a dwarf or not, there was no label on it.

Yea soak them in a damp paper towel. I left two seeds in the paper towel until they sprouted though, not overnight. I took a little over a week .

My small orange tree flowered this year as well (it's still in a 3gal nursery pot). I'm not sure how old it is but I was surprised to see it flowering so small.

Most of the commercial varieties of citrus that I have seen have small or almost no thorns.  I think the trait usually comes back when grown from seed. I'm growing some orange and tangerine trees from seed. They have long 1.5 to 2 inch thorns on a tree only 2 feet tall. I've grown several orange and tangerine trees and did nothing special as far as seed germination goes.  Planted fleshly collected seeds about 1/2 inch deep, kept moist, good amount of sun, worked for me.

I have a couple of clementines growing, and some mandarins. I found it helps speed up the germination if you scarify the seed, just with a razor or the like, then you just pop them into the damp paper towel. In a about a week-ish

tadaaaaaaaa.

plant.

where did you guys get the seeds for your lemon, orange, and clementine trees. Somebody said get fresh harvested seeds. I know oranges are hybrids so they are seedless. I've heard they graft an orange branch onto a lemon tree, and then it grows oranges. I would love to grow a clementine tree. For a fruit tree to flower and bear fruit, do you need two trees, or will one tree self polinate itself?
Thanks

Most citrus are self-pollinating, and some actually require no pollination to produce fruit; in this case the fruit will be seedless. Most citrus trees will also cross-pollinate, producing mixed species varieties.

Here is a strange variegated citrus I grew from kumquat seed. The growth form is odd for kumquat, and the fruit has a different shape, inner structure, taste, and the tree sets fruit earlier. The most interesting thing however, is that the green, unripe fruit has yellow lateral stripes running from the stem to the bottom of the fruit. For these reasons, I suspect this is the result of cross-pollination with one of my many varieties of citrus.
