perlite in cups in terrarium
    #9932419 - 03/08/09 07:17 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

instead of layering the bottom of my weiner dog's terrarium with perlite, should she put perlite in a large bowl with water and place that in there?

has anybody done this before with good results?

The more surface area of the perlite the better.

stick with the teks. rinse your perlite well and allow to drain then spread it in your terrarium 4-5 inches deep.

Not enough air exchange. The shotgun terrarium (with holes drilled on all sides) works because air wicks the moisture off the perlite and into the fruiting area.

standing water will drop your humidity, the perlite nees to be layed out on the base with holes drilled in bottom of FC for air to be drawn up through the perlite and humidify the air. cant skip on those bottom holes theyre what makes the shotgun FC work.

Whoa! How does water not go through the bottom holes? I'll stick to my bulk, but just interested. I'm guessing it's all moist perlite and no standing water.

does it take a while for the humidity to reach 90-95% in the fc? i just put in about 6 inch of damp perlite a couple hours ago. i didn't drill holes in it like a mad man so i dont think that is it. it's sitting at about 80-85% right now. it is a rather large tote though. it was the biggest one wally world had (i think 108 qts). Maybe its my hygrometer??
