First time w/ casing...quick question

This is my first time using any kind of casing tek. I went with 50/50. I had 6 pint jars (im almost positive they were fully colonized), dunked. Cut each cake in half, made three rows of three in my container and then separated the other 3 halves and sprinkled them in the cracks. My container is a white non-transparent plastic tray about 1.3x1x0.5. I 1/2" layer below and 3/4" on top but reduced it two days ago to 1/2". I did this about 5 days ago and i didnt see any mycelium growth until this morning, but i wasnt sure if it was mycelium or some kind of mold. It is white and cottony, growing from the inside of the casing. Ive only ever seen mycelium growing in the jar so im not sure what to look for. Im getting kind of worried that my hard work is for nothing and i am getting contams....calm down or what???
oh and i dont know how much it matters but i dont really have a way to incubate, but upstairs temps are about 72-75.

as long as you cover everything with your casing you should get some fruits.
you should have crumbled them up in to small pieces though, mixed with a bulk sub and then cased.
you could have gotten a lot of mushies that way.
I use 1/2 pints they colonize a lot faster, you just have to do 2x the jars. I crumble them to this and get a lot!

hey 13 i put in halfcakes and then filled the voids with crumbled pieces of the rest. I have 6 pints of another strand ready to be cased tomorrow, should i crumble the whole thing. Also, when i'm using that much (6 pints), what would be the optimum casing layers??
Also, i used pints cuz i was waiting on my 1/2 pints to be shipped and i got impatient haha. U know how it is
i'm sure your guys are rolling ur eyes at the noob but thanks for the tips!!!

yes the smaller you crumble the more inoculation points you have for faster colonization thus reducing chances for contams.
if your using the 50/50 (peat/verm with a pinch of gypsum) mix. it only goes over the top of colonized substrate.
so crumble your cakes, cover with foil with tiny holes covered in micropore tape (for gas exchange only) then once fully colonized add your casing layer on top about 1/2 inch thick. mist a couple times a day if needed.
I would still use a monotub for that much spawn(6 pints)
I fixed that link for the bulk tek above.

since the link wont work I copy and paste the thread here.
Ingredients:
This thread is all about coir.
Your gonna need one brick coir, one quart spent coffee grounds, one quart vermiculite. Check out the massive bags of spent coffee grounds starbucks will hook you up with.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the exact steps i take:
1. Put pot on stove and pour in 1 gallon water.
2. Turn that baby on high, get the temp up to 170F A long stem thermometer is nice in this case
3. Throw in your coir, let it expand until its stir-able.
4. I like to mix all my additives up in a bowl, pour it all in.
5. Make sure you mix it all in really good, you want an even consistency.
6. Put lid on pot and let it sit for a minute or two Substrate will get into 200F range, this is fine
7. Pour substrate into bucket, cover, let cool. It will stay above 170F for an hour and cool overnight
Have your water ready if doing multiple bricks Put pot right back on stove and pour in 1 gallon water.
Repeat steps 1-7 until you've made all the substrate your hands can work with If your fast and you got it down you wont even have to turn your stove off the entire time.
All the buckets will cool in 6-8 hours, the next step is to build and spawn to a monotub:
The Ohmatic Monotub - A step by step pictorial look for this thread. once it colonizes the substrate fully then you add your 1/2"-3/4" 50/50 casing layer and place in to fruiting conditions.
the pics arent here, but those are the steps.
if you can try to find these profiles(good stuff). Large_dose, agar, spongiform, Roger Rabbit, Roadkill, monstermich, fahtster, otto. All good stuff in their threads.
and NO if you mess with it now your chance of contams will skyrocket.
just chalk it up as lesson learned. I rushed in my second time around and almost lost half my jars to contams, it pays to be overly cautious/careful and clean.
