Small Psilocybe mexicana caps

A friend of mine grew these Jaliscos on rye, added coir and coffee grinds and cased with cactus soil. He was going to grow just for the Sclerotia, but decided to fruit them also. They get high humidity and quite a bit of FAE. Should the next flush be larger? Are they nutrient starved?

That is beautiful. I have some in a jar that is just passing the 2 month mark. I am seeing some Sclerotia forming but not a whole lot. I kind of screwed up as mine is in WBS. While it can be done on this it's far from ideal. How long did he let it go in jar before he cased it out and did he get any Sclerotia production?

My friend used rye berries. I've noticed that with Atl#7, whole brown rice makes larger sclerotia, faster. Maybe the same would hold true with these. Mexicana are slower in sclerotia formation in my opinion. Jar was over 2 months old with small sclerotia.

The Jalisco is what I have in my jars right now. The Sclerotia is very small same size as some of the bird seed it's just the diffrence in color that tells them apart. I think I am going to try rye grass seed and incoulate it with some of the sclerotia from this jar in a month or so. Keep us posted when he completes the harvest of this with what if any sclerotia were hiding in the sub.

UPDATE: My friend harvested 27.6 grams DRIED (fruit, not sclerotia) from the 1 quart rye grain spawn into 2 trays of coir. There were just a few sclerotia that were quite small. Could of maybe gotten another flush, but they had slowed down quite a bit. All fruit were sporeless.

UPDATE: My friend started another casing from a 5 month old rye grain jar. He hopes to get spores this time. The yield was crazy from the last casings.More than my friend will use in quite a while. In fact, he hasn't tripped from these yet. For anyone wanting to try this species, go for it. My friend claims that these are as easy as cubies..Maybe even easier as long as you have a pressure cooker. 5 days after casing, fruit are already up. Might have a minor cobweb problem this time. H202 was used (3%) didn't seem to stunt the Ps.mex at all. Lets hope for spores this time!!!

So he is going really long in jars before the casing. You said 5 months? I went like 3 1/2 almost 4 on mine but w/o results I have a new project going hope for better results this time going with rye grass seed this time not WBS which is all I had last time.

The reason he waited so long (5 months) was that the fruiting chamber was occupied, no other place to fruit. I wouldn't wait that long if I were you. Sorry you got no results. This was his first attempt and all went smooth.
