Ok fellow Tool fans. I came to a revelation the other day when listening to the song Eulogy. I had always wondered who it was about and I came to a conclusion that I am very happy with. I will share it with you all after I get some of your interpretations. So please share. Know that I don't think there are any right or wrong answers just opinions.

i know exactly what your talking about... i always wondered over that song... until it came to me that it might be about the ego... "he had a lot to say... he had a lot of nothing to say" .... "to ascend you must die! you must be crucified!"... makes complete sense to me
oh! and btw nice signature! fight club is one of my all time favorites!

i'm pretty sure it's not about Bill Hicks because there are only two songs "about him" according to an interview. I believe the two songs relating to hicks are Aenema and Third Eye. Eulogy at first seemed to be about him, but after further study i'd personally would say it's not.

The ego, Bill Hicks or L. Ron Hubbard.

Its one of Tool's multi-layered things. On the surface I'm pretty sure its about Jesus (there are a bunch of pretty obvious references - crucifixtion, dying for sins, cross, etc), but its also a metaphor for, as was stated, the ego. There are multiply meaning for almost all Tool songs, all are equally right in their own context.
On an only marginally related note, I'm seeing them tonight! Oh yeah. Can't wait.

H is about heroin.
anema - is about the end of the world. when he says "see you down arizona bay" he was refering to bill hicks.
I believe it is what you interpret it to be though.

I concur.
drugcheese, H. is not about heroin.
Listened to Ticks and Leeches recently and it dawned on me that Maynard was probably inspired by people who pirate their music, although none of their songs has a singular meaning, of course.
Also.. why the hell would Eulogy be about Bill Hicks? They were FANS of him..

I think H. symbolizes the constant struggle of fear and love, or any other polarity you can think of. The snake behind him representing his fears, the blood before him representing his love, etc... I could go on and on about that song.

Maynard talks about his and Danny's knowledge of archetypal figures, the fact that there is only one religion, et cetera.. Somehow I dont think they really give a fuck about Jesus in particular.

Ok I definitely think that all these answers are great. I am almost afraid to say now that I think it is about Jesus. I have just really gotten into tool in the last year or so. By the time I was attuned enough to understand Maynard's voice I knew enough about tool to know that there was always something more to the lyrics than face value. Also I didn't think that Tool would even waste their time on Jesus. But after learning more about the bank I don't see why they wouldn't talk about Jesus and also I don't think everything that they write has to be looked extremely deeply into. I think this one can be taken literally as a message of anger directed at Jesus for letting them down . Now as for who this message is being delivered by..... that may be up for more interperitation. Just my opinion.
A guy in my english class said it was a comparison between Jesus and Hitler.
Also I think H is about a relationship of some kind. Where the way he feels about this person is hurting him immensely but the other person is not hurting him on purpose.

Parabol/Parabola seems to describe the Fourth Way. Go to google.com and type in "Fourth Way".
Tool is like coffee. One must force oneself to listen to it at first, but it sounds better every time, until it reaches divinity.
Tool is music to witness and worship, not music to pleasure oneself with. Hard psychedelia, as opposed to most 'trippy' stuff.

I feel good about my opinion that Parabol/Parabola have a very certain Kundalini/Devine Spirit feel. In fact the video itself is extremely accurate as to the "feel" of an actual awakening. Hence the dying of the little guy(representitive of the ego) and through that ego death you wander through the 'forest' of your consciousness till you happen upon the 'spark' that ignites your awkening. Your eyes are open now and you see so much more than ever before. The energy flow and chakras, signified by the lotus flowers unfolding, are opened and energy flows through the entire system culminating with your re-connection to the Divine and the ALL shown in a manner that we can understand as the Devine being one with all our energies......notice the many eyes above the head upon the transcendance of the spirit???(the majority of this being shown in the last 30 seconds of the video by the Alex Grey work)The body is just a vessel for our Devine Spirit...therefore it holds us to the earth untill we pass into our next life. The holy experience is that of a true Spiritual Awakening. It gives you a new vision. A new chance to see the devine in everything...wonder, amazement and pure bliss at being alive..and breathing And it's very difficult to remember your life before your eyes were opened.
Once again...in my OPINION only A STRONG one..yet still opinion.
"We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment, We are Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside... This holy reality, this holy experience. Choosing to be here in..."

that song just makes me cry... i cried so hard when i heard it live... it makes me the most thankful beeing on earth... what a beautiful thing existance is...
immaculate... that is (i think) the hebrew meaning for merkaba... in egipcian it means charriot of god... it may be the other way round, tho... i dont remember anymore... nevertheless both meanings are beautiful and pefectly fitting... and together they are even better
