Denver sets example by cracking down on scofflaws

Quote:

A Good Samaritan who sustained broken bones after pushing three people out of the way of a oncoming pickup has been cited for jaywalking, the Rocky Mountain News reports.

Bus driver Jim Moffett, 58, and one of his passengers decided to help two elderly women who had gotten off the bus on a Denver street in a light snowstorm, the newspaper says.

Moffett's stepson, Ken McDonald, tells the paper that the four had almost made it across the street when the impatient driver of a pickup passed in a left-hand turn lane and hit them.

"He plowed right into my stepdad," McDonald says. "But not before (my stepdad) pushed the old ladies and the other guy out of the way."

Moffett was hospitalized with bleeding in the brain, broken bones in his face, a dislocated shoulder, a broken wrist and possible ruptured spleen and liver, the News writes.

He also got a ticket for jaywalking.

McDonald says the citation should be dropped, but the newspaper quotes Ryan Sullivan, of the State Patrol, as saying that while Moffett's "intentions were good," jaywalking caused the accident.

I, for one, applaud the ciry of Denver and the State Patrol for their fearless and unrelenting crackdown on criminals like the odious Mr Moffett.  If it weren't for all the fucking liberals in CO, he'd have gotten the chair, I bet.

I need a diagram, as I don't see how it's possible that all four of them weren't jaywalking.

More tickets need to be issued.

Arrests for conspiracy.  They were probably trying to set up a lawsuit.

The problem with the law is its often inherently unjust.  They don't give a shit- just so long as you broke the law you get a ticket.

Fucking ridiculous.

This guy should fight it in court.  I bet the police are wrong.  There is almost always an affirmative defense of protecting life or property.

But yeah, why did only he get the ticket?

Welcome to the wonderful draconian world of police bureaucracy.

I'll bet anyone here that the reason he was ticketed is because the police had a rule that you always issue a ticket if their is an mva.

I really bet that is it.  So they take any discretion away from the cops so they can fuck people harder and get more money.

Then when the obviously idiotic ramifcations to the policy become public knowledge they make an exception.  Never mind that doesn't fix the idiocy of the polic in the first place.  Now the next time you are driving down the road and someone's kid is in the way and you turn to hit a car instead of running over the kid, the same damn thing will happen.

And the police will say "just doing our duty" or some bullshit without telling the reporter that the law actually gives them complete and total discretion and they are actually just pricks that created this policy cuz they like it.  Dicks.

I'm more afraid of the police than I am of the criminals and this case is yet another expample of why.
