What is the shortest amount of time you can hydrate WBS if you're casing?

i'm not really sure how a casing would come into play here but you can hydrate wbs in as little as an hour. I forget who posted this tek but it's pretty simple:

put a pot of water on the stove to boil
while you're waiting, rinse your wbs
once you get a rolling boil, dump your wbs in, cover, and remove from heat.
wait an hour
rinse and strain

I know about the boiling tek, but it always seems to over hydrate them and open the kernels and fucks the grow up.

As far as the drying method after hydration, what is the best?

a lot of people lay them out in front of a fan and/or on towels... if you leave them in a strainer for like 3 hours, i find that most of the external moisture is gone but they retain the water content

If you follow fooman's tek on wbs they will usually be ready within 30-60 minutes or less.

for soaking without a simmer or heat, I'd say 12 hours probably.
as far as what to do after the soak:  trust in agar.

you can just let it sit in a strainer.
you can rinse with hot water and toss it.
you can lay it out on cookie sheets.
you can do a bunch of things.

I just would soak for 24 hours, rinse, and let drain for a good while,
test, then go forward.
