Living truly happy
    #9856231 - 02/24/09 01:20 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Hello you lovely beings

I might just be feeling off-track or something, been living in abit of up and down lately, and this might actually belong in the person help section, but I that place isn't read too much.
Anyways, Ive been wondering if it is really possible, to become truly happy (let's not go around what being happy really means) while living in society, the city, yknow.
I know we can expand ourselves far, achieve a lot by meditating, "improve" our energies and energy centers, really enjoy living here and now, yada yada. I have a lot to improve, but thats not the point.
Does living "here" not suppress something in ourselves?

I know I am tangled up in some stuff but would still like the overlaying question answered somehow :p

gah, I need to stop smoking weed damnit.. How can one feel so lost (is this really just a cry for help...? :P)

Cheers and much love :sun:

Hey.
Yes, I think it is possible to be truly happy, even in the moments when you're not emotionally well. Acceptance seems to be that magic element that instantly allows us to remove whatever it is that's holding us from feeling good.

I don't see how. In the way, every environment can do the same thing, since we will always respond to our surroundings, thus sort of limiting us from developing other aspects of ourselves which would be more dominant in other scenarios.

I couldn't agree more with MushroomTrip.

What is your alternative to live "here"?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

I think this is actually a really awesome question.

I can't stop thinking about our culture's obsession with escapism in wilderness fetish terms. Humans have collectively socially ordered themselves into a system of civilization that we now conceptualize as impure, as flawed. Why is this so? Why the notion that the only place that we are ourselves is in an idealized notion of wilderness in which the human hand has not changed the order of things? If we are so obsessed with an un-humanized existence, then what does it mean to be human in the first place? Why the Edenic myth that describes us living in harmony with nature, only to be expelled for being the sole possesors of knowledge?

The Edenic myth suggests that even in the era of the old testament, there was a notion that being a human, the only animal manipulates its environment to such an extent, actually excludes us from a more peaceful and satisfying existence. Why? Where does this idea spring from? Why is there such a battle to merely exist with a sense of peace within the framework of our social orders? Do bears and bees and plants feel as out of touch as we do?

Sorry if I hijacked your thread, but I felt like your questions were pointing towards this bigger question...Why does civilization feel so wrong? Is there something wrong with us or do we merely make ourselves feel unhappy for no apparent reason?

I was asking what alternative there was in living in society, wheter he thought we could live alone, in the trees, in a small town, and so on.

I think that humans might just unconsciously equate happiness with being totally cared for. This is the myth of mother nature. But really we want to be back in the womb.

Meditating, energy centres, the here and now, they're all just paths to the simple realisation that you exist, that you are aware of yourself in this universe, and you don't know why or how long for, but you are here anyway and can appreciate it. When you see your life for what it is, just so and nothing more, its very hard not to be happy, IMO. Read "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl, an Auswich survivor and psychiatrist, about how meaning can carry a human through almost any suffering.

"He who has a 'why' to live for can bear with almost any 'how'" - Nietzsche

Womb = undifferentiated bliss

Not to mention no work or taxes and free food.

Being in a womb is like Vito wrapping you head-to-toe in plastic for not paying off that sports bet. Not a good feeling. *shudders*
