Gross, Livermore and the madness of crowds
    #9834612 - 02/20/09 04:53 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

I was reading this article today
http://money.cnn.com/2009/02/19/news/newsmakers/benner_gross.fortune/index.htm?postversion=2009022012
and noticed the part about the poster of Jesse Livermore in Bill Gross's office and wondered if it was the same guy in this video here that I saw a couple months ago.

After finding this

I realized it was.  Apparently he developed a lot of trading methods that are even used today.  On the wikipedia website, it says this book
Extraordinary Popular Delusions And The Madness Of Crowds (1932)
was a big influence to Jesse Livermore.  You can download a copy from:

I realized that some people (cocky and naïve) have to experience some pain from the stock market in order to develop more discipline for investing successfully.  Here's a good page which discusses typical mistakes of novice investors and traders.

Another video from Todd Sulivan's website

Bogle and Heebner seemed to me to be a little too optimistic when I saw it a couple months ago.
