Too much Agar powder??
    #9812997 - 02/17/09 08:05 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Hi!

I just made a batch of agar  and I think I put a little too much agar powder in it.

I poured some of the agar  in a bowl to check what it feels like when solid, and it is quite 'rubbery'.

This is my second try at agar , and I used a PFA tek.

Theido

Edit: Got an answer to the question!

Hi: You need to get your self a jewelers scale (.01 to 200 gram range), these can be found on the US E-bay for around $20.00us plus post (I just got one for under $20.00us with post) and should be offered there in the EU also. It just takes the guess work out of preparing things like agar.  By owning and using a good scale you know how much agar or other ingredients your using. Plus the weight verse volume can very as much as 20%+/- due to particle size, density and settling, this is compensated for when using a scale and not when using things like a spoon measure, ext.. None of this it looks like what I need because you'll know.

Most agars will sent up with 15gr of bacteriological agar or 20gr for agar bought at a food or health food stores. Some agars like oat meal extract agar will require 20% to as much as 30% agar more because of the soluble fiber form the oats will weaken the agar's jell strength.

I hope this is of some help; Hipster
