Possibly Ganoderma but not sure at all. Help !

Habitat: Where does it grow? It was growing on a tree. And possibly also on soil around the tree. Here are the pics as it was growing on the tree.
Gills: Gills are not visible on this Mushroom. In case I am doing something wrong w.r.t. this, please point out.
Stem: Length= Some grew upto even 5-6 inches, diameter=~1inch, color= Brown, texture=woody, solid, thick. http://picasaweb.google.co.in/lh/photo/JpnhalNOu-dDy7CjIYJnbQ?feat=directlink
Cap: Diameter= 4", color=brown and white, texture=hard, conical, convex.
Spore print color: I didnt take the spore print colour when I isolated this. Now I only have it on PDA plates. If there is away to find the spore print colour from the cultured plates, please let me know. By the way, this is what it looks like under microscope under X450 magnification. http://picasaweb.google.co.in/lh/photo/dPZy8Wfap3DdbkhQ-ZDbxA?feat=directlink
Bruising: It was cream coloured on being bruised too.
Other information: I couldnt make out any distinct smell. Conditions: It was around 22-25 degree Celsius when I isolated. It was quite humid as it had rained just a couple of days ago. Its rainy season in India from July till September. http://picasaweb.google.co.in/lh/photo/SFQdQBDBxZUuBTMcZZaC6Q?feat=directlink
I know it has been emphasised so many time that we are supposed to give the spore print if we want any help with the identification, but sadly, the mushroom doesnt grow there any more( They cut down the tree I have shown in the picture). Because of that, it is not possible for me to get the spore print. Will see if I can get a spore print from the culture.
I hope you can help me anyways.
BTW, I think this is my first post here. I am glad to be here.

You have no idea what kind of tree that was? It is very important! Was the inside of the pores whitish or brownish red? Spore print color probably doesn't matter too much on this ID. It would be very helpful. Please me if you would be willing to share the culture. I would love to grow it out and find out what it is. I am very interested in Ganodermas. I have many different strains. I am even going to attempt to make reishi Beer soon.
Is this the only Ganoderma you have seen in India. Have you ever keyed out any others before in your area?

@Lipa, Obi: Currently I have no idea about what tree that was. Sadly that tree has been axed now. I am sure our University may be having some record regarding the axed trees. i will see if I can find the species that way. Being a Microbiologist, I have very little knowledge about Botany Lipa, I am mailing you for the rest of the things.
@Flip 3084: Why do you think that it maybe G. tsugae. What are the characteristics of this mushroom that gives that idea.
@Mr. Mushrooms: Thanks.(I have never seen anyone in any forum with 6,368 posts. Unbelievable.)

I am growing this mushroom in a flask on saw dust and other things. It seems to be growing nicely. If I get a fruiting body, I might be able to get a spore print too.
