 Use of PF style cakes to spawn bulk substrate?

I know that rye grain or birdseed are the most commonly used to spawn bulk substrate. From what I have read, pretty much any colonized substrate may be used. Does anyone know anything about using PF style cakes to spawn poo, hay, straw...etc?

Rip the cakes up with a cheese grater. Works fine.

I know this thread id old and topic beat to death. Yes,I am a newb and have Whats I consider a very important question. I have 10 1/2 pint pf tek jars. Want to do a bulk grow with them. What size tub? Planning once 1:4 ratio using horse podo, chior mix. Just want to make sure im using correct size tub. Andy other tips would be appreciated.

You should start a new thread... tub size is up to you really ,but you've only got 2 1/2 qts... 1:4 will require 10 qt poo mix, and total of 12.5 quarts of sub/spawn... 1qt is 57.75 cubic inches, determine what depth you desire: I like about 2", some like them 3+"... at 2" thick, you'd take your total cubic inches and divide by 2 to figure what amount you'd need per inch... so 57.75x12.5=721.875, now figure length and width dimensions that will gives you near that in square inches, easier to start from square root... square root of 721.875=26.8ish inches square... this as a starting point, pick your tub based on square inches rather then qt rating: you're not filling it up... Personally though, I'd spawn 1:2 and do a shoebox

Yeah it works great. Itβs how I did my first grow. Good on you for using the search engine but yeah if the thread is 15 years old go ahead and start a new one 
You can either use a cheese grater on the cakes or slurry them in a blender with some water. Just use equal parts cake and coir/verm or even straight coir.
I even did a grow once with blended cakes and untreated coir. I got mushrooms but then it triched out after the first flush.

Can cake to bulk be done after the 2nd or third flush or is that gonna lead to contam?
