Easier Way to Incubate Jars... Portable Heaters??
    #9765147 - 02/09/09 10:44 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

What do you think about putting your jars in a closet with a heater inside? a fairly large closet, one you can walk around in a bit... Like one of those heaters you can get from walmart or k-mart?

k-mart one

walmart one

cheaper walmart one

What do you think about this instead of a TiT setup? ...This just seems so much easier, and you still get heat for your jars...

You don't need heat for your jars bro, especially in south florida.

I use an oil filled radiator in a closet to keep my temps above 70F, I live in a cold house in the UK and temps often drop to just above 60. If your normal room temp is above 70, dont bother with a heater

my house is about 70-75 all year round, I thought the jars needed to be about 85 degrees no? so like, 80 degrees for your room temp to achieve that....

70-75 is fine for incubation. people used to use 86, but this has been proven unnecessary and can even result in contamination's, due to contams liking the higher temperature. Most people on this forum will tell you theres no need to incubate at 80. I incubated some jars of WBs at 70, and had full colonization in 3 weeks, and it would of been faster if I shook them at 25% rather than around 60%. so id go with normal room temp, cheaper on your electricity bill to

SpekOner,
my place is always 76 with ac and 78 with heat. almost all my mushrooms love this. so far no problems with incubation at least--i don't grow any shiitake yet and would have to get a warm weather species anyway. gotta grow what you can where you can.

70-75 degrees is perfect for colonization and fruiting..  I would recommend to never go over 80 degrees because molds and bacteria love the higher temps..  I keep my room at around 73 degrees in the winter and around 70-72 degrees in the summer, and everything goes great..
