Shrinking but wet?
    #9754917 - 02/07/09 01:14 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

This is my first time casing. I am using 50/50 plus. Before this I have always done cakes with success but this has me stumped.

After a few days of them incubating at 82 degrees F with the lids on, they have started to slow and pull away from the sides even though there is water on the bottom as you can see in the pic when I tilt the box. Its now been 2 weeks.

I have foil wrapped around the bottom to keep the light out and it goes over the sides into the inside of the container between the lid and the box so I would think that would give it a enough space for air exchange.

Plus every time I lift the lid, water come pouring off of it.

What am I doing to F it up?

Not enough air exchange?

that tub is over saturated...its pulling up because its moving materials from the substrate up through the casing layer...this is normal...i would drain off that excess water somehow and fill in the areas where it has pulled away from the side with either more 50/50 plus or just damp verm that has been nuked in the microwave for a bit and allowed to cool. Otherwise you will get side pinning which isnt a bad thing but is a pain in the ass to harvest...

hope this helps :grin::thumbup:

Lower the temperature at least by 5 degrees.  It's normal for substrates to shrink.  The mycelium feeds on the substrate so it gets smaller over time.  Drain off any excess moisture.
