First successful grow Treasure Coast
    #9726800 - 02/03/09 01:49 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

I got some rye grain bags from mycrotopia and a Treasure Coast syringe from another sponser. All ten have no contaminates. 4 are almost completly colonized. I was wondering what yall would suggest the safest way to get shrooms without risk. I also bought a kit from mushbox, which the spawn instantly contaminated. I followed that same proceedures as i did with the sponsers supplies. In a bleach sterilized closet. With full clean suit on,facemask, gloves and every utenisil sterilized with alcohol.
I still have everything from the mushbox kit except the spawn which i have from our sponsers.

I will try finishing the mush box kit.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Help my make this my first successful cube grow!

OK time for an update on what I've been doing. First off id like to say that I cased with 50/50 peat verm at about 1/2 inch depth. Then I stuck it into the incubator for 3 days till there was mycelium poking up in different places. Patched and then put in the fruiting chamber. After about 2 days there were a couple of patches of trich or some other green mold. So I dumped the top uncolonized casing ever so gently in a sterile enviroment with gloves and a mask. Well its been 6 days total of colonization of casing and I havent noticed any knots. Is this normal? My rh is 99% at 75-76 F. Whats the average time from casing to pinning?

I just recently pastuerized some straw @ 160-165 for 1h 15min. Is this right? I mixed it with 2 1.2lb rye spawn in a plastic bag and pressed it into the future substrate container.

Here are some pictures..enjoy!

These last pictures are actually a couple of days old. I have over 1000 pins, several hundred growing pins. Is this normal? Also most seem to be albino. I hear that TC's tend to have some albino but most are. I have also recently poured water in between the substrate and the wall and let it soak for 24 hours then poured excess out of the bottom.

Im having a problem. There are hundreds of pins that are about roughly a centimeter but no large shrooms. There is one cluster that seems to be still growing, but the rest seem to be not growing. Also, the cluster that is growing seems to be growing really slow. Should I go ahead and harvest the flush but not the cluster or should I wait until the cluster fully matures. It seems I should harvest the small ones to give room for new larger growing shrooms. Also how do you tell if its aborted or not? I will have some more pictures later tonight.

Nice looking grow bro... I must correct you though. The TC strain in the wild throws off many many Albinos. I find them all the time and actually have them in my back yard.

Ok, so I harvest my first flush 2 days ago and the total weight fresh was 48.7 g's. Give or take a couple of grams due to the casing coming up with the shrooms. Only 18 Grams were full size mushrooms the rest was a carpet of aborts with vermiculite and peat(nasty to eat). There are more mushrooms coming up as we speak an they look bigger. I'm sorry I didn't post pictures. I was to excited. They were eatin within 5 minutes after we harvested them. Me in my girlfriend split it.
It was a very happy trip with CEV. Conversing with someone is so much fun. My girlfriend started to laugh at a 20 dollar bill and I ask her "What's wrong,do you have some funny money?" She couldn't stop laughing for at least 5 minutes. Also watching cartoons kicked ass!

Treasure coast has some good and bad points as far as cultivation goes. The mycelium didn't seem too aggressive. It pinned readily but most aborted and those that grew full size did not weigh alot. It is very contaminate resistant. Some tiny spots had trichederma but were overcome by the mycelium. Over all it's a keeper, but not for people who like big mushies.

Oh, one more thing, they seems to bruise very green is that the baeocystin?
